Ouch, that looks nasty. To bad with such a wonderful bird.

I does seem recoverable though, and the MAC seem intent on wanting to rebuild it.

It was a 109G4 known as "rote 7"....
But good news: i just read in a german air magazin that the plans for rebuilding are already completed and that they will begin repairing next month.. repairs will take about 1 Year..

most important: The db6005 wasnt seriously damaged...

there are many flight-videos out from this l¶ovely warbird... i love its sound ;-)

It was originally a Buchon and had the Merlin replaced with a Daimer Benz DB605.

Lots of video here:

Fingers crossed for the reconstruction.

Don't worry about LeadSpitter, mate. He's a cranky old bugger - nothing pleases him.

Interesting news about the rebuild (although I'd heard about the crash).

Ahh so its a Buchon, the cockpit looked like a D or E.

I wonder why the Buchons had the old style hood.

Thanks for that.

It was basicly a Buchon but a lot of parts were changed. Buchons were 109G2 licence productions.
Thats the cause for the older hood.

But the spain never got the DB engines, so they changed to merlins (Willy himself helped to build the engine in!), behind the engine there was no optical difference to a 109.
The "Red 7" was rebuild nearly to G4 standard with DB engine.

Bu that Buchon hood looks more like an Emils hood than a 109Gs, to me.
