View Full Version : И-16: The Beginning of the End - Released

Hello Everyone!

I have just submitted my finished campaign И-16: The Beginning of the End to M4T for download.

The short 9 mission campaign is actually a re-make of a campaign made for the original IL2 Sturmovik in approximately 2001-2 I-16: Four Days in the Fall, by Luthier. The campaign follows the story of an already deceased pilot who narrates through briefings while you play out the last days of his life.

Originally packaged as a bonus because of the release of the I-16's cockpit in 2001 (Yes, there was a time in IL-2 when the I-16 wasn't flyable), I decided it was time for the little 'Rata' to get a second chance to shine.

Great screemshots.

I've just been playing the Russian fighter campaign flying the I-16. That plane really has certain fascination.

Excellent! I played the earlier version and look forward to getting this fat old tub back in the air.

Thanks PBNA

I love watching the orchard rush past me on take-off! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif There are some sweet moments in this campaign. Well done!

The I-16 is an old favorite. Nice to finally have a static campaign for it.

The last mission was a blast to fly. At first i looked up and saw nothing, 2 minutes into the mission i look up and there are 30 109's all firing.

Throttle at 100%, and up i go. Head on with an 109, as i pull the trigger, 20mm rounds fly past me and i am forced to flea. I see an 109 at my 3oclock low and turn on his six, he goes down in flames. His wingman opens fire and again i have to bank hard to avoid it. With all my squad wiped out i dive for the deck pulling out at 50m over a hill and behind me are 4 109's. I slow down, watching 2 of them overshot, a short burst to the leader and hes out with an oil leak.

With 2 109's still behind me i band hard left then right when 2 109s open fire form above i'm hit and on fire. Stick forward and down my plane goes, the explosion damages the wingman 109 behind me and he crashes about 300m in front.

I had three kills before i went down in flames, http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Please educate me. 1st time I've ever downloaded an offline mission. Exactly what file path do I install it into?

You should only have to extract this to your main IL2 folder, I believe.

Are you sure? I don't want to screw up my game and have to do a total reinstall. As there is no "read me" file in the download, I'd only be guessing.

Dude, it's a couple of notepad files and tracks. It's not going to screw up the game if you do it wrong the first time.

Okay. The folder in the zip is titled IL2 Sturmovik 1946, so extract it into the Ubisoft folder. That should do it.

I extracted the zip file titled 'IL2 Sturmovik 1946' into the main Ubisoft folder but the campaign does not appear in the game under all USSR ones listed. After checking the Ubisoft folder, the 'IL2 Sturmovik 1946' folder is indeed there, right next to the main game folder Titled 'IL-2 Sturmovik 1946'...the add-on folder title having no hyphen between "IL" and "2" whereas the main game folder does. Is there any other way?

I'm really interested in that campaign, and so I appreciate any further advice.

Open the newly created folder, cut the files in that folder, then paste them in the main IL2 folder.

Alright, copied and pasted the contents of said folders into the corresponding folders of the game. Works good!

so far, half way through, botched bombing attemps, have been ambushed plenty of times, haven't shot down a plane, yet it's one of the best campaigns i have played in a while... the engagements are visceral!

Downloading! Looking forward to playing this through!

Well this photo sums up what it looks like at the end of pretty much every mission. The funny thing is, when I took this photo, the cockpit was fine, I guess there was a graphical glitch and the cockpit disappeared.

Notice the writing that appears. I guess those parts are usually left to the skinner to chose what he wants to do to with.
