I've noticed many more processes running in the background sinse I upgraded from an Nvidia 5600GT to a ATI Radeon Sapphire X1950XT and as I'm still on a rather tired AMD 2500 chip (yes, the socket462 32-bit creaker!) I need to streamline whats running in the background mercilessly!

As I don't want to wreck my brand new toy, can anyone tell me what of these processes might be superfluos and just hogging resources?

Thanks!

Try this little program:

FSAutoStart (http://www.softpedia.com/get/Tweak/System-Tweak/FSAutoStart.shtml)

You can configure it to automatcally shut down and restart for you processes in the background. When you look through the process list, it has an explanation for most of them. For the ones FSAutoStart doesn't know, Google is your friend.

ATI installs two new services, ATISmart and ATIhotkeypoller or something like that. I disable both of them. There is some debate as to whether hotkeypoller is needed if you overclock but I overclock with my 1950 Pro and experience no problems with them disabled.

Good luck.

I use ATI tray tools instead of CCC.Narrows down those big chunky memory stealing programs to a minimum. At least for me.

Use ATI tray tools and turn everything else off. Go to start up and turn them off there as well. Only tray tools will need to start with windows.

This will solve your problem and works very well to increase fps's..

Read the very simple instructions on setting it up though! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

Use ATI tray tools instead of that Control Center.

i use the old control panel my self.

the control center has too much stuff you can live without.
