Do you take a scanner/aircraft band receiver?
If so,what type?

I used to take an old Bearcat portable, but recently bought a newer, smaller(a little bigger than a pack of cigarettes) thing from Radio Shack (pro-83) that,so far seems decent.

I usually end up turning them off to listen to engines, enjoy some prop-blast,or talk to someone.Like a curious little kid,I still take a radio anyway.

Nope, take a camera, but not been to an Airshow in about 10 years proper, been to the likes of the RAF Battle of Britian days etc, but that was because i flew in in one of the display Aircraft......... or the odd tradeshow like Farnborough, again as guests of companies showing there for my work........... they are a bit of a busmans holiday for me, a bit like someone that works in a small garage going to a Ford Dealers to watch the cars coming and going for the day.........

Camera, money, and sunscreen. I went to a show at North Weld in '94 and came back with a brick red face. Learned my lesson.

Camera (still and video), sun screen, chair, a bottle of water, plenty of money for food and more water. Since Sep 11, 2001, coolers and such are usually forbidden, all packages and back packs will be searched.

I always take a dog, a small flock of seagulls and my fowling piece.

Sewiously, we always go equipped for the apocalypse; picnics, waterproof blankets, sunscreen, brollies, binoculars, cameras, fluids, the odd book just in case the runway gets blocked (happens, collapsed nose gear, took a few hours to remove the plane).

Thinking of going to Fairford in July, they'll be having that Osprey thing which should be cool.

I bring my wife.
Need someone to push the chair.
You oughta get you one of these,
or both. Much better than walking around
in that hot sun.

The worst bit was standing by the aircraft signing autographs................. straight up, you feel a prat..............

Other memories.. us, the frecce tricolori, Jag display team, Hawk display team and the Patrouille de France out on the pop...... pulled some Girl, but was so drunk and intent on finishing beer she went on to a nightclub with out me............... it was shut, she left her name, address and phone number pinned to the door for me, never saw it.......... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/bigtears.gif

Breakfast in morning before second show, bomb scare so restaurant was evacuated......... everyone very civilised walked calmly to the door and out onto the grass......... me i picked up my breakfast tray and took it with me http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gifhttp://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gifhttp://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gifhttp://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif they all stand starving looking at me... then in through the window at their breakfasts getting cold or disturbed by the bomb disposal dogs hehehehehehehehehe...... one up to me http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gifhttp://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gifhttp://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

A broad brimmed hat for each person who comes with me, sunglasses, comfortable hiking boots, a couple of gallon jugs of Gatorade filled mostly with ice (at first), the kind that come with a shoulder strap and the insulated covers, SPF 45 sunblock, a baggie of Cheerios, another baggie of frosted spoon-sized Shredded Wheat, my trusty 35mm Minolta, 10 rolls of film, binoculars and oh yeah, my two sons and a fistfull of cash.

cheers

Wife, digital camera, extra memory card, one extra battery, sunscreen, hats, credit card, and cash. I should leave the credit card at home, but you know how airshows are.....gotta check out all the vendors in the tents (to cool off from the sun). I usually come home with a carload of goodies for the rec room downstairs (vintage memorabilia, autographs, aviation apparel, books, etc.) Oshkosh is only a little over a month away...WOOOHOOOOO!

I like to bring Depends brand old people diapers,

It will come in handy when your fave bird flies in front of your very eyes...

The looks on the people next to you after the plane passes is also priceless http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I take my scanner.

For the CNE airshow I actually go to CYYZ aiport and sit in the back of my pick up with my camera.

Caught this last year....

Altstiff-nice vids,thanks for sharing.

I particularly like the sound on the B-52;nothing like someone "working" the throttles of 8-Pratt & Whitney 'screaming demons';while the old girl crabs into the strip.

If I'm not mistaken,we can hear your scanner @ the end of the B-52 vid? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

Hmmm, I didn't think of bringing a scanner to listen in on the aircraft chatter. That would be cool.

I do, however, bring either a radio or portable TV to every major sporting event that I go to. I love to listen to simulcasts while watching the action live. I get to see the replays on the TV, too.
