Guess who has won ... http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

The best snipers come
from.....Germany and Sweden ! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/partyhat.gif

Two disciplines were tested :

1. The pure shooting skills
2. The "Gefechtsdienst" skills (dont know what that is in english.

You know camouflage, stealth abilities, handling of weapons etc.

Sweden earned the most points in shooting but Germany earned the biggest overall point score. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

Here is the official score list :

Place and score (Shooting/Gefechtsdienst/Overall)

1. Germany (285/285/570)

2. Austria (283,5/232,5/516)

3. Sweden (322/147,5/469,5)

4. The UK (225/225/450)

5. Spain (260,5/130/390,5)

6. Poland (167,5/210/377,5)

7. USA (268/97,5/365,5)

8. France (216,5/105/321,5)

As you see, the USA had a very good shooting score but fell down to place seven as their sniper team was spotted during the stealth-test which gets you the maximum penalty.

In that test the teams have to close in on a target, unseen of course, and hit it.

The spotter was lying in high grass and the sniper was climbing on top of him to shoot over the grass line. But his cap was casting a round shadow in his face which was spotted by a point judge from 350 meters distance ! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif

The u.s sniper was marked with a laser pointer.

"Team USA, you have been spotted and killed by an enemy sniper"

Bad luck http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/sadeyes.gif

The whole article is very long. If someone is interested in more details i can translate them http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Hmm. Do you know if Canada competed? I know that we won a sniper competition not too long ago, but don't know if it was this one. Our snipers are pretty good in combat, as demonstrated in Afghanistan. One Canadian sniper set a new world record with a confirmed kill from 2340 metres.

Anyhow, congratulations Germany. And Austria for 2nd place. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/metal.gif

Congratulations to Germany - a huge overall score. Good to see the UK did quite well too. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I'd like to see more photos if you have some Celeon http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Hmm. Do you know if Canada competed?

It just says "...eight nations followed the invitation" maybe some others were invited but had no time to send teams ?

I'd like to see more photos if you have some Celeon Smile

Sorry, thats all the article had to offer http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Maybe the other nations military websites have more photos ?

Ah yes, the winning team was from the Fallschirmjägerbataillon 373 (nice long word) http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

The "O" will say "Parachutists ! Of course they won !" http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Congrats to the top shooters.

I want the spotting scope that's on the table, nice. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

You know I told the team to keep still. But noooo, those young guys just don't want to listen. And they wouldn't let me play either because I insisted on using my own reloads.

I can tell you right now why the USA team was spotted. Us americans are designed to shoot before the enemy shoots him, no matter how many rounds it takes http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/10.gif To encourage this, our engineers have made a slight modifacation on our rifles. feast your eyes on this "experimental" m4 body.Hint: Look at the Selector Switch Markings http://img508.imageshack.us/img508/5531/gp1841ti7.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

Thanks for the memories, Celeon. One of my favourite Schultz moments: when he is made Kommandant of Stalag 13 and issues orders to the guards, "To shoot to kill!"

P.S. Love those ghilli suits. This thread has made me want to watch Tom Berenger in "Sniper" again. They also make "Sniper 2" but it is a sad shadow of the original. Give it a miss.

P.P.S. Military Channel aired a documentary last week about the history of sniping, mainly from an American perspective. Of interest was that the early German "jaegers" brought their rifled muskets when they emigrated to the US colonies. American gunsmiths further developed the jaeger rifles into the Kentucky Rifle. American snipers in the Revolutionary War were able to pick off British officers out to 300 yards, unprecedented accuracy for that time. Germans were prominent during that war, for their participation and the influence of their weaponry and military excellence.

http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif Yes i remember that one

Another good one was the episode in which they were send to Paris by Klink and Schultz was to go with them as "guard" http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

The Gestapo came into their hotel room and they stuffed Schultz into the uniform of Luftwaffe General in the very last minute.

Schultz : "Now listen carefully to me" http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-mad.gif

"If you dont disappear within the next minute, i'll show you two pig prussians in trenchcoats what a real pissed off bavarian wild boar looks like !" http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/winky.gif

Gestapo "Jawohl Herr General !" http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif

"We´re very sorry ...we didnt know that you reside in this apartment" http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif

Le Beau : "Wow ...Schulzi.. i never thought you could be that convincing" http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/clap.gif

Schultz : "I know..... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif....i may have made a tough impression on them....but in reality...i was wetting my underpants http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-surprised.gif"

Youtube holds quite some rare stuff http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Here is a german sniper instructional film from ww2.

Learn everything about camouflage, communication with handsigns, locating hidden enemy snipers etc. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

Interesting that you must even have knowledge about grasses and bushes.

For instance : If you spot a bush that usually doesnt grow on such ground, its possible that you just located the position of a sniper. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

With english subtitles and a translator. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Nice vids celeon!
So didn't the americans send in profesionals?
That certainly sounds very silly of them, one on top of the other? Sounds dodgy to me http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
