When the Radio-man that plays a Gramaphone shaky version of the games music-score,does this have any real significance to playing it, or strategy behind playing
it ?? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/351.gif http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif

If you turn it on while submerged, any warship within 27km will hear you and know your position within a 100M radius- so be careful playing records.

When you are playing the gramaphone, your crew's morale will go up, and their fatigue will go down. You officers will perform their jobs better also, so its good to play it while reloading torps because your crew will load them 50% faster.

I made all of this up, btw.

u can put music files in the gramaphone folder in the main SH3 folder and play it while playing.

As for what johnny just "made up", i could have sworn i read somewhere before the release of the game that playing the gramaphone DID actually lift the crews morale. ive since been told otherwise in other threads, i hope this isnt something the manual just forgot to explain and it does actually work. also i think it does affect ur ability to be quiet underwater if you are playing it.

i really am unsure about the whole thing, does anyone know for definite about it?

Thanks Conor, Do u grab an Mp3 file or copy and paste it, into which exact folder ?? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/11.gif http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

04-21-2005, 05:51 AM
just drop them in or copy and paste, which ever u want. mp3's are fine i think, but not sure. assuming u installed it to the default directories, Chttp://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_razz.gifrogram files:Ubisoft:silenthunter3:data:sounds:gramaphone .then just play them in game like u got the garbled version of the theme tune music to play.

It, says you can use .oog .mp3 and one other, type file. Can't remember what one though.
I am loading mine up now, had the files for a few days but forgot to put them in lol.

Before I put in my own music files, when I went to Silent Running, it would stop the music. But then I removed all the game backround music files, and then added my own gramaphone music so it would only play music when I wanted it too. Now it doesn't stop the music when I go to silent running. Makes me wonder if the music is still interactive to the game as to where playing it would give me away.
I'm also wondering if this was fixed in the last patch. Where if you turned of the ingame music , your gramaphone didn't work anymore.

04-21-2005, 07:42 AM
if it switched off when u hit silent running,it probably means that it does give your position away. id love a definite answer on this, and if it effects morale at all.

So what Gramophone records do you all play? I'm still fairly early on in the war, so less worried about giving away my position. In fact, I'm rather hoping to attract more bait!

To enhance the atmosphere, I entertain my crew to the musical strains of 'Yes! We have no bananas', lots of old 1930s Ink Spots recordings, a very early version of 'It's a long way to Tipperary' (plus the Das Boot 'Russian Army' version) and a few totally anachronistic 'attack' anthems like Run DMC's 'It's like that' and Ram Jam's 'Black Betty'. Naturally, these are only used when going up against totally defenseless prey. I guess I'll be whispering these songs later on in the war.

Don't know what my crew makes of it, but it sends my morale through the roof! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

yes, we have no bananas is a real song??i heard it mentioned in the simpsons once,i just reckoned it was some gibberish that homer was spouting. i use some of the music packs that were circulated around here before the game was released.plus a few songs from various movies like "the mission" "platoon" etc.

yes, we have no bananas is a real song?

Yup, a real song. Written in the 20s and it was made famous by Jimmy Durante after the war.

My Grandfather captained a UK mine-sweeper in WWII and used to play me all the old gramophone records they'd listen to, when I was a little 'un. "Yes! We have no bananas" was a typically eccentric British 'classic' since the early 20th century (I think one of my MP3 recordings is from as early as 1922). As the U-Boat crew in 'Das Boot' had "It's a long way to Tipperary" I thought it quite conceivable that they'd have other international records too.

Playing such songs works wonders for enhancing the atmosphere of the game and conveying a flavour of the time. It's a pleasure just to lie on one's bunk on patrol, listening to these tunes and contemplating what tonnage the South-East coast of England may hold in store.

Also, if my crew are all completely knackered, I sometimes submerge the boat to about 40 meters and send them all to the bunks with music playing. In safe waters, of course.

Just let me know if you (or any anyone else reading this) would like a copy of these songs.

Best regards to all my fellow skippers,

Isn't right, isn't it? Oh, why not? Give me a moraal boost http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Wunderbar! Thanks Messervy.

russian_crazy, just let me know your email address and I'll send some period tunes over. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif Modern stuff can be amusing (especially The Imperial March from The Empire Strikes Back... genius suggestion that) but the oldies really enhance the mood.
