The other day I joined a server that was running on nite time. I've flown them before, but I perfer daylight. I see alot less action in the dark, so I was gonna quit. What the heck I'll do one bombing run and see what happen's. After dropping my payload, and heading home in those lonely dark skies I got a idea. I turned to the west, jumped to the gunner seat, and I turned on, and off the nav light's. I was on/off on/off. With the first hint of dawn behind them, they were easy to track. I had one on each side of the rudder. Those light's were like a magnet. I clicked on/off one more time, then opened fire. The one on the left was a instant fireball, the other one broke away but soon registered on the screen. It really was fun, I don't think that the other pilot's knew that I was baiting them. It really was fun, that's why I'm thinking it was probably wrong.

All's fair in love and war.

I have read accounts of real world encounters just like this.

Good ploy of you ask me.

Cool trick. Always good when something could have gotten really ugly but ends up going kick ***.

Sounds like you held your fire till just the right minute anyways. Well done...way better that way anyways. Attact them to the light, sucker them in, and then zap!

Hey, they both died quickly, so at least it was humane. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_razz.gif

I'm certainly no expert, but depending on your height I might at least have tried to sneak up on you from below, so that the dark ground hid me a little. Then I would no doubt have opened fire and missed you by a mile anyway the way I shoot http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

But no, you were not wrong. If you enjoyed it, that is what this sim should be about.

Apparetently my love of dropping 2000lb bombs on people taking off is not acceptable with most people on HL. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/34.gif

It's not new, but quite effective. We (friends and squad mates) have used a variation on this many times. The main difference though is we use the landing lights instead of nav lights and have one pilot act as The bug-zapper while the other sharks circle the waters waiting to eat the duped victims.

So many peeps online are aware that nav lights often act as a distress call that the stalkers can have a heightened sense of SA whereas the use of your landing light imparts more of a false sense of 'easy prey' thus decreased SA.

Nothing is fool-proof, but it works well enough that I have no problem posting it because it'll STILL work. It's that effective.

Hey, it's not like they came over full of fraternal feelings and engaged only on
a mission of scientific enquiry. If you'd waited another few seconds you'd've been chewing on cannon-fire, be sure. You should congratulate yourself on what a killer wheeze you pulled off. After all, those nav lights weren't advertising doughnuts were they?

Ho, ho.
