View Full Version : OTish - Let me tell you about paranoia.

So I have been doing some radar research as some of you may be aware. Getting kind of serious about it too.

So I write to a woman in the US Army Historical Section. Really nice lady. She makes arrangements to mail me some some historical information on certain US ARMY Radar sets. SCR-584 etc.

First one got here yesterday. The last two today. All three packages come in a envelope with her return address on them -

US ARMY Communications-Electronics Command etc etc etc. Very official looking things!

First one great! RC-184 Radio Equipment RC-184 (The IFF gear for the SCR-584) Nice information!

Second one - Maintenance Manual for various radars SCR-270 etc. Real Nice.

In fact here is the title page for it.

Third one has 2 E-Gear magazines in it!

Here's a pic of that.

OK so where does the paranoia come in?

All three packages were posted seperately and came in seperate plastics bags with the following written on them.

So I write back to the nice lady..."Did you mean to send me E-gear magazine?"

She says and I quote. "I have never seen those magazines. Are you sure they came in the envelope from our office? Did you receive all the manuals you requested?"

Will keep you posted. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Or the postman's building a radar station in his shed right about now...

Well, coincidentally, the President was recently "outed" for certain domestic spying. Bummer you're on the list, Waldo. Really liked your movie, though. How did you get Redford to play you?

How did you get Redford to play you?

Before logging onto IL2 you must now do the following:
1. Locate a large tupperware bowl, backpack (fill with clothes, shaving kit, etc), a kitchen timer, a handheld mirror, a girlie mag, and a mp3 of babies screaming and crying.
2. Open mp3 file of crying babies and set to repeat. Adjust volume to piercing level & set kitchen timer for 30 minutes.
3. When timer goes off look in mirror and make inane comment about how crappy security is - then reset timer for 10 minutes.
4. Spend the 10 minutes practicing crappy pick-up lines on the girls in your magazine. (Extra credit given if your wife walks in and catches you)
5. When timer goes off turn the volume down on the crying babies, pick up backpack, and walk through the nearest doorway.
6. Make buzzing noise, sigh, then turn around and walk back to your computer. Pick up tupperware bowl and empty your pockets of keys, change, etc. - walk back through doorway and make buzzing sound. Sigh, Cringe, cuss under your breath and walk back to computer.
7. Remove your shoes, belt, and watch. Walk through doorway and make buzzing sound. Cuss loudly and walk back to computer. Pick up mirror and tell yourself you have to wait for the "supervisor". Turn up crying babies and set timer for 20 minutes.
8. When timer goes off pick up backpack and empty all contents on floor. Be sure and crush anything breakable and slip any valuables into your pocket. Once all items are thoroughly mangled stuff back into backpack.
9. Walk back thorugh doorway - then back to computer. Put on watch, belt, & shoes; replace keys and change; and put timer and tupperware back in kitchen.
10. Turn off crying babies, load IL2, and enjoy your flight http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

The same thing happened to me several years ago with the US mail. Out of date phone books were substituted for music books. When I contacted the music book publisher they said that it was a common occurence and happened quite often to their mailings.

Well you can't blame Homeland Security can you, I mean you were going to use that info to track their homing pigeons to see if they were overflying our secret installations in the Balaton map.
Their plan is to get you to buy one of their digital video recorders which secretly watches you playing IL2, they're worried you might discover the secret to the magical 50cals. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif

So does this make Waldo the "Falcon or the Snowman?"

12-20-2005, 07:56 PM
Hey Waldo -

Funny now that you mention it.

After me, Dubbo and Jetsetsam had breakie with you in Vancouver last month we all commented on the amount of odd little sun-glassed 'suits' staring at you in the restaurant - talking into their shirt cuffs.

Now it all makes sense.

You're not going to be 'outed' soon as a member of the Khadr family I hope? http://www.danielpipes.org/article/1639

I remember getting a package from Jamiaca one time. The post office called and asked me to pick it up.

When I showed up at the post office there were two big RCMP (Canadian feds)officers waiting. They offered to help me open the package, just as nice as you please.

Not knowing exactly what was in the package but having my suspicions, I suddenly remembered that it may have been for the previous tenant at my address. Who by a strange coincidence had the same name as me.

So I turned down there generous offer and went home with my neck hurting from trying to see behind me the whole way. After a long week spent peeking out from behind drawn cutains twenty times a day, I finally relaxed and settled back to a life of general (not specific) paranoia.

Is canada that far behind militarily that they need to steal US Army technology, vintage 1945?

12-21-2005, 09:24 AM
So, Freelancer, did you take the package home with you or leave it with them?

Who by a strange coincidence had the same name as me.

And they believed you!?
