I looking to upgrade my video card to a
Sapphire 256MB 9800XT, and I wondering if some people with this card could post some screenshots, so that I could see the difference between that card and my 64MB Geforce MX420. thanks.

If you can get the 9800XT for a reasonable price, I'd say go for it. For the most part though, you're better off with a next-gen X800 or Nvidia 6800 - 9800XTs tend to go for the same price as the next gen ones.

I was thinking of waiting for the price to come down to a more reasonable level($150-$200).

but that Ti4800 sure looks good. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Yup Ti cards are great value-for-money...

They fry easy though http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif this is my 2nd, first one was far better in fps...

If you can get it - AOpen Aeolus Ti4800ViVo - video in and out - can record realtime http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif - this one is an Asus something, both 128MByte DDR.

For value, its hard to beat a 9600XT 256MB for $150 or so. It's main drawback is its 4-pixel pipeline, while the 9800Pro is 8-pixels and I think some of the top-tier cards are 12- or 16-pixel pipelines.

The core clock is 500mHz and memory clock is 300mHz, and with the Overdrive feature, decent cooling and an overclocking program, its possible to squeeze more than 550mHz out of the core. I play AEP online with Perfect settings, and my FPS never drops below 30, and that's with a 2.8GHz P4 Prescott and 1GB of PC3200 DDR.

The difference between that and your current card will be phenomenal. H@ll even a 9800Pro 128 and your current card would be amazing.... go here (http://www.pricewatch.com/) if you dont mind buying on line. A buddy of mine just got a 6800GT OCd and he returned it and got a X800.. he said the difference was amazing.

Nice bumps in the water Woofie http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif
No reflections?
And do you have different tree-types along the rivers ?
Is the water transparent on the shore?
Do you get waves washing up the shore ?

Granted your fps will be higher in gameplay http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif though...
But then - if I wouldn't have Perfect on... fps would go up too http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

And eh - can it record DVD realtime on a DVD+R/W - yes multiple recordings on one DVD and Rewritable too http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif <-- I LOVE that ! - right from my scart TV connector http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif - who needs VCR ? LOL
on a P4 1.7GHz with 1Gig DDR 266FSB AGP4x - talk about outdated....

If you have enough money to buy a 9800XT, then stretch a little bit more and get a X800Pro or 9800GT, since these are way better. If you don't, then nothing beats the 9800Pro in it's price class, and it's only marginally slower than 9800XT. Nothing a little overklocking can't solve.

Beeing streached thin on money due to upcomming vacation to Brazil I didnt have much to spend on a graphics card... but I just felt I had to.. my GForce 3 just wasnt cuttin it anymore...

My call was the 9600XT 256MB.. it was quite a lift from the Gforce 3... the price was really good... 550 SEK (70 bucks) less then the 9800Pro... I will have to see if I end up kickin my self for beein a cheap **** but at this point I needed to up my graphics card and save money...

Malm¶, he he...

Tro mig, 9800Pro ¤r s¥ mycket b¤ttre ¤n 9600XT. Det kan jag sv¤ra p¥ eftersom jag sj¤lv uppgraderade fr¥n 9600Pro till 9800Pro.

:happy lil_labbit... I haven't noticed the tree shapes... but the water along the shore line is clear and you can see the bottom and I get the waves coming up to the shore also. First time I saw the waves was after the last driver update from ATI. 4.9 I believe WOW!
I'll post a screen shot later today of the waves.
Also... you can see in the picture I posted... is the flash from a rocket attack from a B-25 on the Destroyer.

http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif Hawgdog... I thought your posting wasn't bad.
How is your frame rate though... for exsample say your using Uber's Program and flying through a Bomber Stream of about 50 Bombers? How is the frame rate on yourmachne then?
I can get roughly 12-16 friendlys and about 40-50 bombers and have a good frame rate with no problems.
But I don't fly on-line that much and I sure there is a difference.

"your using Uber's Program and flying through a Bomber Stream"

huh? Not sure, whats that?
I average in cockpit 35fps online. And it depends on the map and plane too- It was 45ish, but I increased the textures and mipmap from 'quality' to 'high quality' : increased AA to 4x and AS at 2x, it took a hit but it looks better to me.
I cheat LOL, I run the game at 800x600, that is a MAJOR difference for my now, lower end card. It took a day to get used to. If I drop to excellent it will crank into the 60s average all night, rarely going less than 40-heavy trip a, dense cities etc. yup, 800x600 was like adding 512 cache to the card. It works better for me as I can see planes waaaay further than before and more precisely place hostile fire onto a wing

I run a 9800XT

I take all my screens at the highest possible settings with perfect and it's almost playable that way-but here is a water shot on the islands maps-I edited the reflection on the plane-and took out a little color-but otherwise it stock (and the prop is reworked):

yep, a card with 8 pipes will definately run alot better than those with 4. i got a 9600XT 256 and it only has 4, i can run perfect but real flakey though.
