It has been said before but i feel that I just have to!

Sneeking up behind an IL2 with an BF109 G-2 at 250 m height in a Finnish campaign, I lett the IL2 have ALL of my ammo BOTH guns and cannon from 200m to 100m. Bits and pieces all over the place but all that happend was that one stab. got shot away and the IL2 flew for more than 10 minutes before I got fed up and landed.

I hate this!!!!!!

It's your shooting. Try deflection shots or shoot at the radiator hanging under the nose. IL2's were very heavily armoured and are very resistant to attacks from dead six.

Your shooting is crap. /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif

There is far too much protection when firing from dead astern.
Try coming in from above or from a slight angle.

Your post didn't come across as a whine, but the title did!

I fly the IL2 online and get shot down alot/i/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif
You have to find out what the weak points are. As I fly this bird I dont know where the best places to hit. I seem to loose my rudder & elevator controls alot. Also if you get smoke coming from her she wont make it home 99% of the time.
I have surrvied some good battles where fighters have ran out of ammo but have also been downed with just a few shots.
I aint got the heart to set up a QMB and shoot an IL2 down to find out its weak points. I've got quite fond of the old girl/i/smilies/16x16_smiley-surprised.gif

If it's any consolation...

"...I attacked the plane that was flying furthest from the left, moved in quickly and opened fire from 70 to 100 meters. I managed to score quite a few hits, but my shots just cannoned off the IL-2. Its heavily-armored body was even able to withstand 2 cm cannon projectiles!"

Yeah, it's ur shooting. On an IL2, I find shooting the engine, radiators, and cockpit helpful.

the rear fuselage of the il2 is weak. it was in RL and is in FB. i once teared a il2's tail off with just my mg131 of the 109G10. this was from dead six. full weaponry realism. has to be your aiming or so. or maybe im just lucky with my shots.

IL-2's are a pain.

I love flying them online, take control on gunner, fly with one hand, aim and fire with the other . . untill the enemy overshoots, at which point I let him know what anti-tank shells feel like.

I've withstood incredible damage before. But I've also been downed by a sinlge Mk. 108 shell.

Your shooting is crap/i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif
For the Il-2 you only need few small mg rounds and patience.Try to put a few rounds in the lower opening of the oil radiator, just enough to get some smoke out of it. In around eight minutes the flying tank goes down. If you want to do it faster shoot the wings, engine and cockpit. Remember not from dead six.

Aim at outer wings surfaces or engine.Few cannon rounds should do it.

A good place to shoot an il2 is in between the pilot and the gunner this is a fuel tank and should burn nicely.Attack from above and slightly behind the pilots shoulder the gunner will not be able to draw a bead on you

Try hitting on the wing root or a bit further out where the wood and metal sections meet. I blew the wings off using a Dora 9's full guns in a single run (firing time on target was less than 2 seconds).
