View Full Version : The worst start to a patrol ever.

This was U-83€s second patrol out of Salamis Greece in 1941. I had arrived at my PZ and was doing my time when a report for a small convoy game in. I was in a perfect intercept position and moved towards it reducing speed and staying on my map to watch my course.
Unfortunately, I did not bother to check the weather which happened to be heavily raining with dense fog.
I did not see the sloop (Frigate) until it was firing at near point blank range with those 3 twin 4 inch gun batteries.
I was mauled. I was going to slow for a get away dive so increased surface speed to get into the fog since we were going in opposite directions about 150 yards apart.
As I made it to the cover of the fog, dove to periscope depth, set up damage control and was hoping to catch one of the trailing merchants.
It was then I noticed my hull integrity.
The Sloop had turned around and was pinging me and on hydrophone bearings I started shooting at him. 2 spreads of 2 bow and a stern fish
None of the 5 torpedoes hit.
But I did give him the slip.
9 fish left, 4% hull integrity and not a single ship even hit.
Even all alone I was embarrassed.
I headed for Tobruk hoping to sneak in and at least get a merchant before limping home in disgrace.
I found a C2 and put 2 fish in him. I would have at least something to show. I left and headed out of the port NE when I saw 2 big troopships anchored NNE of the port entrance.
Nothing around, Hmmmmmmmm. I lined them up and got them both.
I again headed NE and reloaded as I went and then saw a British heavy cruiser anchored.
Fired two right under the bridge.
I ended up with 32K after what was the worst start ever to a patrol since I started playing this game over 10 months ago.
It turned out my hull integrity was higher than I thought. It was 4.25%
Sorry for exaggerating earlier!

At least you have some positive paperwork to put on the BDU's desk.

I've got to give you credit, if I were that beat-up I would have headed straight home, better to live to fight another day.

Had that been my 6th patrol I would have done exactly that but on my second for that career I needed results for medals to improve my crew and was also pissed off about the drubbing I got and wanted payback.
I am beta testing the big Seawolves Med add on which has careers in both Greece and the Black Sea; the later in type II boats, of course.
I also started a 1942 career last night from Greece and could not hit the side of Africa with a fish.
Had it not been for a lucky find of a small convoy where the Luftwaffe sank the escort and I was able to sink 2 C2s and a small tanker with my deck gun I would have only sank a coastal merchant and 3 destroyers. As you all know when you are sinking escorts it is desperation and means low tonnage.
Takes me a couple missions to get used to the slower fish in 42 at 100%

any idea when the seawolves med addon will be available?
can't wait for the black sea operations http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

Not to entice a debate or a (somewhat) heated topic, but are you really considering a X-1 Software product?

From what I have read, they have a shady background of "utilizing" free mods that are available on the Internet.

I do not want relive that story but after the dust was settled they were mostly there mods with a few used by permission and there seems to have been a few possible mistakes for which they have paid dearly. They were never proven to have done anything wrong.

This, Seawolves Med is a new project all new material

Go to their site, look at the listings and come back here and tell us what is not theirs.
I will gladly ask them of anything you state (not suspect or wonder about in ignorance) but actually say this mod is not their mod and here is why, then I will ask them.
But, the idea that they must prove to the ignorant that each mod was built by them means they have no rights to their own efforts.
I hear some claims. I have those mods. I look at their mod and it is totally different. Since I run the beta everyday I have a clue.
Please share definitive information and I will ask them directly. But, no whining unsubstantiated BS, Please.
Also remember X-1 is actually authorized to modify UBI copyrighted material by UBIsoft.
None of the modders are.
When modders object to them making mods in a similar fashion it is absurd.
We do not need to make this so difficult for UBI that they start to consider hard coding everything to avoid the whiners.

This might have been closer to release had they not decided to make it much bigger. Trust me on this, the extra time is because there will be even more new content than was originally planned. With SH4 end of 07 early 08 I believe a little longer will be a good thing or at least result in a good thing.

Here is a link to Combat planes showing the new Arethusa class CL. Since they posted the link I guess it is OK for me to repost it
