It's been a very long time since we had anything like an SH3 movie posted here...too long infact.

@ and RJ, how are you going to break the 4000 barrier? http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

excellent piece of work...brings back memories of reading about the Graf Spee when I was young...

I wonder how many teenagers today actually spend time with history books and read about the not too distant past? http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_confused.gif

Superb Remindes me of "Battle of the Riber Plate" - The film!

Just 2 Questions:

#1, How do you record film in SHIII? I can only do stills

#2, Can you play as the Graf Spee or a capitol ship, and if so do you get full guns? 2,3 11" etc)

I figure you can play as major warship because amm you would need to do is alter your submarines folder to a warship, but would you get full weps and so on?

If you can that would be such a good mod - Great Naval Battles with superb graphics!!

Very good posting and excellent film. I'm obviously giving away my age when I mention that I have a picture of me taken in front of the 8-inch guns of HMS Exeter as a child. My father was working for Esso in Peru in the summer of 1939 when the Exeter, Dorchester and Ajax came to Talara as a "show the flag" tour and the local Anglo community rolled out the red carpet.

My father got to be friends with the Gunnery Officer, Lt-Com. Richard Jennings. He came up to my parents' house during the visit and took me on a tour of the ship. He later got a DSC for standing on top of the Exeter's last firing gun (X turret) after the gunnery control was knocked out and sighting along the barrel and ordering the gun to fire. He was not on the Exeter when it was lost in the South Pacific and lived into his 90's.

The Admiral Graf Spee should never have lost the Battle. Logically, it should have used its superior firepower (6 11-inch guns) to keep the British ships at a distance while it pounded them. The British cruisers could do 32 knots to the AGS's 29 knots, but even then, it should have taken them a long time to get within range if Langsdorff had been a more experienced admiral. Harwood was smart and split his firepower with the Exeter coming in from one direction and the two smaller ships coming in from another, taking away this advantage. Langsdorff thought the two light cruisers were destroyers and focused on the Exeter.

The Exeter took a terrible pounding and eventually dropped out of the battle with all but one gun out of action. Ajax and Achilles displayed the best of British battle practices of steaming at full speed at the enemy who had eight 6-inch guns in its secondary battery. The two small ships continued to fire at the AGS but really did little serious damage to the armor plated Graf Spee. It should have closed on them and sunk them both, before disappearing into the South Atlantic. It might have been caught later, like the Bismarck, and suffered the same fate but it might have also gotten back to Germany.

It was the wrong decision to steam to Montevideo. The British did a superb job of convincing the world that there was a huge fleet waiting off the three mile limit, when there were only three ships, two of them very battered. Hitler was eventually responsible for its scuttling. It was a real boost to British morale at the time.

1- I used Fraps for capture, and Sony Vegas for edit it.

2- I used the editor to recreate situations. From my sub I made the shots putting each object in the right place. Sometimes they did the rest. Sometimes not. Sometimes I fired torps and them hidden. Too much work. Too many simĀ“s loads and exit.

Sorry for my bad english, friends. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif
