View Full Version : Hate 1st person

Does anyone hate the first person part of this as much as I do? Does a real sub captain have to do everything? NO! I was a big fan of SH3, SH4 was bad, this is worse. Developers should go back to the SH3 model and improve it with the graphics for SH5 - then they would have a hit

I dislike spamming whine threads a bit more than I dislike the first person aspects of SH5. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/shady.gif

Hi BobSchadewald,
I've been wondering about the effect on the sim this may have. Has it made it more like band of brothers etc? I'll buy it when the DRM issue addressed and the mods have made it what it should be with the name Silent Hunter attached.

SH3 is still my favourite. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

I think if they can correct some of the more obvious omissions (e.g, I should not have to run down below to talk to my #1 to alert him to battle stations), as well as the morale system (which loose morale suddenly), the first person interaction part adds immersion.

I have had to chuckle a few times when the devs slipped in some jokes into the dialog. For example, the watch officer plays pranks but is asked not to by the captain, and the watch offer makes a comment about how stiff #1 is.

But that's novelty. Where I think the first person part could go is to add balance to the game strategically; whereas in SH3 we use to push little icons of crew members into sleeping quarters, here is much more face to face.

There's much more work to be done, but I like the direction they are going in.

When you have been able to retaiin some crew morale the F keys often work. Not always, but I have been able to start crew abilities without leaving the conning tower on a number of occasions.
It's worth trying before setting off to the forward torpedo room.
Although, last night, while in conning tower, I used F12 but the icon did not appear top left. So off I went to forward torp room only to find the ability was active.
If it's not one thing it's another.

Everytime a plane flies over and refuses to engage I think of Ubisoft. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/sadeyes.gif

This is what happens when you try to mate a FPS with a SIM. You get really ugly babies.
We can always blame the milk man. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/59.gif
