I was just digging through some old posts and ran across this-it's a great read and has some unbelievable photos as well. Lots of good info for those who like to ground pound too!

Excellent reading, thank you very much. 7-8 sorties was the life expectancy of a ground attack pilot. Concentrations of 40 light AAA guns.

Good stuff to read. Taking in consideration the average of 8 sorties for a IL-2 pilot and his gunman I would have been killed many many times as a simmer.

I was especially interested in his saying that they all carried gun cameras, and the rear gunners had wide-angled cameras. I'm sure that in the basement of some communist-era administration building in Russia there's heaps of Sturmovik gun camera film, it would be great to see some of that!
