I've started a FB dynamic campaign in a good old IL2 and have been having a whale of a time strafing columns of vehicles - all in the name of the Motherland etc. I have to admit that I'm a bit worried about my squadron though. They frequently attempt ridiculous aerobatic stunts for no reason whatsoever, which in many cases results in 'interface with terrain'.

I've had 50% losses to combat flights merely on the straight-line formation jaunt to the target destination. I use the autopilot VERY cautiously now, as there is a significant danger that it will try to take me below zero altitude. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_confused.gif

Obviously there is something 'amiss' with the AI, or perhaps I've been transferred to the Suicidal Lunatic Squadron as punishment for some past misdemeanour. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif

I don't suppose there's a patch or anything that will fix this? The irony is that if my squadron mates didn't keep crashing themselves, we'd be doing alright in the campaign. As it is, we are struggling.

I have the same problem with my soviet ai as well. They seem to like those big loops from 200 feet above the ground. I don't know why either. It doesn't seem to happen with ai pilots from the other countries

Deadmeat;
Welcome. You've come to the right place to get your questions answered. Just be ready to hear things you may not like such as:

AI in this game have always done the unexpected, the impossible and the stupid.

Try setting up a Quick Mission with at least 4 planes and use the various commands. (Tab key is the default) It's not a cure-all but it will help a bit. Remember that if you ask your boys to attack and they aren't close eongh, (and for them it needs to be pretty close), they will respond with "Unable". In real life they would be courts-martialed, but no such tribunal exsists in IL-2 land.
