I just got my new ATi X1800XT, but im wondering if i should use the custom settings in the setup, or go for the standard X800 settings??

Will there be in an upcomming patch support for the new NVidia and ATI gpu's? And if not, could someone be so kind and post the best settings in my case for the X1800 series??

Thx very much in advance,

Baalberith

I always use the custom settings...and thats on my 9700Pro. Thats because through trial and error I've found the best possible settings for my card. I'm willing to take a minor visual hit if it'll give me some smoother frames.

You can use the X800 setup. I can't see it being too much different actually.

There are some Beta DLL files that enhance some of the visuals in terms of pixel shaded water (only using OpenGL and only in Perfect mode) and I'm sure that'll be standard in an upcoming patch.

congrats on the new card- it's quite good isn't it? http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

as to settings the standard x800 settings are quite good actually- at the moment the changes i've made are
texture compression= S3TC
use dither=OFF
polygon stipple=OFF

Depending on use of AF in ccc you could set texture mipmap filter to aniso from trilinear,
personally i'm running 16xaf on trilinear.

In ccc i highly recommend setting CAT AI to advanced, i also enable adaptive aa.

The rest of settings are dependant on your preference between high detail or high fps- your cpu can be a major factor here.

The beta dll's are worth looking at- try water=2 http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

good luck and let us know how you get on

I am drooling. Lucky m8! Shoot. I want to go PCI-E! I want an X1800XT!! Please don't post any BD benchmark numbers. I don't want to know. Forget about everyone else that would like to know. HEHE

Sorry for the incomplete info.

got this system build:

AMD64 4000+
Asus ATi X1800XT
Asus A8N-E motherboard
1GB Twinmos Twister PC3200
CoolerMaster RealPower 550

Do i need to change stuff in the conf.ini? For instance the hardwareshader option, and what settings for the water?

Greetings, and hopefully till soon (pc is at computerstore)

first off don't panic about conf. ini, just set to perfect mode and fly some, maybe run some fps benchmarks and see what you think.

IMHO the first thing to decide on is the resolution you wish to play at, if your monitor will support it try 1600 1200 but lower res will run faster(running at same res as your desktop is a good idea http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif )

then find a setting for AA/AF you like

then think about changing conf.ini settings.
(back up before making any changes)

the major one is water, which for ati cards can be set to 0,1 or 2(really only for beta dll's-see below) -the higher the number the 'prettier' the water is-at a performance cost.

forest= 1,2,3- 3 adds more/prettier trees in towns

Effects= 0,1,2 - adds shadows to smoke etc- 1 is normal

Shadows= 1,2 - 2 is 'realistic, 1 is 'hard'

all these are in the opengl section at the bottom of conf.ini

beta dll's- check out oleg's ready room, top of page- some nice screenshots of the differences in there.
note:- they are betas! (and they should be in the next patch).

might be worth checking out this thread

to see a comparison of vid cards and some bits about settings if you read through it.

good luck
