The owner has Allstate, hahha, they'll pay full replacement cost (not depreciated value!).

Well actually, he'd be lucky if he did. I have no idea what insurance he had or if that incident would be covered.

Poor car. At least Griffin was ok and that's the most important thing.

So true, in order to make a convinving fake, they need to mind "Dukes of Hazzardian" physics.

I am an estimator at the Body shop for the oldest and largest Ferrari dealership in the US. the largest estimate I've written so far was $43,000 for a 355. Allstate will not cover it because it was done during a racing event, owner is S.O.L. on this one.

P.S. our company owner has the largest private Ferrari collection in the world. he owns 44. including an Enzo, F50, F40, GTO and scads of others.

here's a pic of the 355 I handled and the Boss's F50. I'm the tall one in the middle.

Tag when you consider the cost of parts on that car you can see why it is so expensive to fix, the decklid glass is $8,000, the front bumper is $18,000, fenders around $8,000 ea not to mention the whole car is hand built, so when those parts arrive you just don't hang them on like you do your average Toyota, they need to be cleaned up of their imperfections and modified to fit the car, you can see why the costs get so high.
we did a Testarossa a year or so ago, the front bumper was $7,000 took us 4 months to get and when we finally did get it. it took 10 hours of repair just to make it presentable to install

Lotus POS. worked on on of those also. damn things are made of composit materials, when they get hit they shred like balsa wood. $50,000 wanna-be car. you gotta be a freakin midget to even fit into one, if your over 5'10" ***edaboudit. interior on my Dodge truck is higher quality, they ride like shat. uncomfortable as hell to drive. get shat mileage. dont think I could say anything good about them if I tried. it doesnt even qualify as a poor mans Ferrari. if your going to spend that kind of $$$ then spend the other $40k and get a Mazeratti coupe

I've often heard the terms understeer and oversteer but I don't really understand how/why etc. Care to elaborate? Of course, now I know what understeer looks like lol.

understeer- the car "pushes" and continues straight, or does not turn as hard as anticipated, even though the front wheels are turned.

Oversteer - the rear end of the car swings out, or through a wider turn than anticipated, even after the front wheels have been turned straight or opposite lock.

I still dont see why people assume the thing is totaled. Anything can be re-built. Besides, im sure it has more value now in publicity! Im sure that even IF it was totaled, the owner can recover most of his money parting it out after he gets his share of publicity. I live in LA and work for the entertainment industry. I know how this stuff works.

P.S. There is a lot of talk about this crash being staged. They point out that the photographer on the other side of the barrier did not flintch. Well the problem with that is photographers looking into a camera dont really know WTF is happening till its too late. Im sure if the camera stayed on him, you would see him duck soon after the car hit, and he realized that he was in danger. Also, humans tend to respond a little slow http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif If it was a stunt, you would be seeing footage from his camera, and about 15 others. They dont burn a 1.3M car and only have 1 friggen camera rollin!

And both of these conditions are a result of losing traction on the wheels misbehaving? IF so, I know all about fixing oversteer, but how do you fix understeer? Thanks!

Opposite lock.....http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif
Dont forget guys euro cars are designed to go round corners(when talking about Lotus), not spend hours on end driving in a straight line http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/mockface.gif

Lets see, Maserati (note i can spell it!)
!) Sh*t build quality,
2) Rot like a 20 year old Lancia in the UK climate,
3) Bit of a wait for parts, when i worked at a prestige bodyshop in Slough, Berkshire, 2 years ago, dont have to name it, you estimators in the know, know who it is, we had a 'Mazza' off the road for best part of a year waiting for a front bumper cover! So praps a lotus might be a better option although i'm no expert on these, do think they look nice tho.

compared to what a Lotus???? I think you need to look at the Lotus again compared to the new Maserati

ah so thats why the Lotus is made of plastic so it wont rust. I have a few Model cars made from the same materials

first off parts waits are nothing unusual and for those of us in the know would understand that. I once waited 8 months for a side a aperture for a Nissan Murano so BFD on the wait time shat happens.

third Hand built cars usually are of questionable fit and finish, since Ferrari builds the Maserati (does this spelling suit you) and just a side note the Lotus is worse in its build quality IE: fit and finish

when i worked at a prestige bodyshop in Slough

oh and by the way proper grammar should have the I capitalized and Body Shop is two words not one and you spell dont with an ' like don't plus i'm should be I'm http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif since we are correcting spelling here

that video is a good example of a newby in control of high Horsepower

its why the fast laps in a F1 is beyond most people . high power &/or speed takes time to adjust too

when he hit , he wasnt going that fast - just 600 Hp got away on him for a thousand revs he wasnt ready for

Understeer is when you see the tree before you hit it.

Oversteer is when you when you experience the impact first.
