both games set to max (AC:B had a lot more options though) here's some shots from Florence and Venice same angle and time of day as best I could.

Looks like AC:B has a slightly narrower FoV. Certainly has more detail at distance (AC2 aggressively LODs out 3d details; there's a lot of blurry 2d planes). AC:B has sharper shadows. On the other hand, in the second shot, AC:B has no shadows at all on the pedestrians :-/

All in all I wish AC2 had had the options AC:B (and AC1)has for increasing detail. Florence and Venice remain my favorite cities, would be great to see them in higher detail for more than the tiny bite size chunks of the flashback missions.

Or alternatively it would be great if there were actually possibilities for modding the game(s), either for detail, or opening up another city, or importing one city to another or whatever. Modding has always done a great job of extending the life of games after the main story was done, I'm sad to see it go away with so many titles

The "blurry" look of AC2 somehow seems nicer. The same effect happens in Rome in ACB, though. Wonder why the same doesn't hold true for the Cristina missions.

Try forcing the MSAA through Nvidia control panel, as well as Vsync, it looks and runs better.

This only prevents screen tearing, and runs a bit worse. MSAA of course can make it look much better, but also, makes it run a bit worse, ie a performance hit can be noticed.

*EDIT* Venice shots added to OP

I don't actually prefer the blurrier look. I much prefer the sharper textures and greater 3d detail at distance in AC:B. The art direction in AC2 is top notch, don't get me wrong, but I think it benefits from the AC:B engine.

I'm not doing anything with AA, just max in game settings (better comparison that way). But for sure some AA could help with the extra jaggies that appear as blurriness goes away and as detail remains longer. OtoH vsync can DIAF. Triple buffering is almost OK though.
