Hi guys,

I just wanted to get some information on the way the AI reacts as night time. With bombers do they keep their nav lights on at all times or turn them off when under attack? what about fighters?

Also at what distance do nav lights appear?

The darkness at 23.00 seems quite bright still, does it ever get nearly pitch black or very dark as its still quite easy to disdinguish land marks at 2,000 - or would i need to add in more then light cloud?

I don't do a lot of night flying because it annoys me. With icons off you have nary a hope of tracking an enemy, but AI can see you bright as day.

I tried a mission at night in bad weather once though, and it was so dark I couldn't tell up from down. Clouds and darkness are a bad combination. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Once I played a night mission on an online server. Icons were off, but at least we were all in the same boat in SA terms. I spent the better part of an hour trying futilely to approach, identify and attack aircraft you might occasionally see as dots on the glow of horizon towards the sun. Get glose and they'd disappear into the gloom. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/shady.gif

It was quite a sight to see flak bursts and tracer fire illuminating the clouds in the distance though.

There. I think I managed to answer precisely none of your questions. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

In my experience, they turn off their lights when they reach the GAttack waypoint, and then switch them on again on the next In Flight waypoint.

Also, when under attack (actual shooting started), they switch off and on their lights individually, but I found no logic in there. It was anyway harder to find them, but still easier than in real life. Nav lights are visible from the other side of the maps.

Maybe the darkness in some maps are different. I haven't seen totally dark nights yet, but there could exist other maps.

By the way, you might try the night fighter mission yourself on the 102nd COOP server, you can switch to it (IIRC) with 'DSC MISSION northwest night' chat command. It is on the NorthWest Europe map, Bf-110s try to intercept formations of B-25s bombing a bridge at night.
