looks like ubi let these guys (http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=169205) try it out. Seems they've been shopping around their demo a whole lot.

Some key bits...

After playing a full level at E3, Assassin's feels awkward and intuitive - one second you're effortlessly speed-running over rooftops and dispatching guards, the next head-butting walls, cursing the camera and flailing wildly. We suspect it'll be easier with extended practice

I won't say "I told you so" yet, but we'll see, hoping for the best.

Free running is intuitive, except when you need to make a bigger leap - once, we vaulted three small ledges before tumbling off a roof. When you jump and cling onto ledges, the jump key becomes a backward leap, not climb, leading to more falls.

We also got a brief glimpse of the horse-riding plain (like Hyrule Field in Zelda) which links the cities, engaging in horse-mounted combat.

Dunno how I feel about that. I like horseriding in games, but as soon as they say zelda, turns me right off.

At key points in the game, the entire screen 'glitches', and you can tap any button to retrieve brief plot clues.

Kinda interesting... anyone else kinda feel like they're forcing the sci fi theme a little too much?

Zelda is cool! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/11.gif Oh well, I'm not going by what a few people say. The games got like 4 months left anyway.

Yea...one website says a few bad things about the demo, while every other site praises the hell out of it.

I dunno, doesn't seem like a very compelling argument to me.

Never played it http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif I also did like Oracle of Seasons though. And uh.. Majora's Mask. Once you really think about it, there's not really a bad Zelda game out there, lol.

Majora and Twilight are the best. I havent played much of a link to the past (Too confusing) and I got seriously stuck and confused in Oracle of seasons, but then again I played those a few years ago.

Anyways, back on topic.

I'm glad it is more of a Zelda-like experience what with the horse riding mechanic and stuff. Imagine all the secrets out in the countryside! :O

guys, zelda is great, but certain things just don't go together.

Super serious adventure where you jump around and kill people...

doesn't go with fun happytown riding around on horsey while playing with your wii.

I just can't imagine the social stealth system and 'fight when necesary' combat philosophy going well with all out combat chase gameplay just doesn't sit right with me. Maybe they'll pull it off, but it just sounds awkward to me.

Yea...one website says a few bad things about the demo, while every other site praises the hell out of it.

I dunno, doesn't seem like a very compelling argument to me.

The thing we have to remember is that while lots of websites are praising the gameplay footage, others are chastising it for the actual gameplay they experience via a demo.

opinions seem kinda mixed right now, but as I've said before, at this point, one bad review/preview is one too many.

On a lighter note, they sure have been allowing a lot of sites access to the demo, maybe if they're that confident in it, they'll give it to the fans sometime soon.

Didn't sound like too bad of a review for the game if you ask me. If you ask me it seems like they thought the game was enjoyable, but like MGS (Which may I reminded you is now one of the most highly anticipated games for the PS3) it will take time for the controls to be easily manipulated.

Jade said this along time ago, you have to unlearn everything previous games have taught you, and then after you've unlearned that, you have to get used to this control scheme.

I mean that review specifically stated that they think it would get easier with practice so I don't really see the problem there.

I think the only reason they even mentioned Zelda was to give a general example. All they were saying was that their were large plains which separated the three cities, did anyone expect something different than that?

I don't think their forcing the sci-fi theme at all.

At key points in the game, the entire screen 'glitches', and you can tap any button to retrieve brief plot clues.

At "Key Points". I don't think 'Key Points' happen very often in video games, which would result in the occasional screen change which doesn't last anymore than three seconds.

Now for what I think about the demo review...

It sounds baffling, but you do adjust. The payoff is that the lead character is hugely flexible, and there's a variety of ways to tackle any situation. In our demo, we reached our target by scaling roofs and strangling guards, but we could have sneaked past disguised as a monk or just battled through.

Hmmm... A hugely flexible character? That sounds like some very nice praise coming from these guys. Variety of ways to tackle any situation? Sounds fantastic to me, I love going through games again and beating them different ways, finding new ways of completing missions, gives me more choices which I think is great.

The combat isn't as complex as feared.

These people who only got 15 minutes to play this game are saying it's not as complex as a lot of people are afraid of. Sounds good to me. It shows that Ubisoft can take what could be a very complicated battle system, and have found a way to make it easy to understand, this gives me higher hopes for the game actually.

rather than crude flashing icons, these high spots are indicated by fluttering pigeons.

It seems to me that what most people are getting all angry about is an obtrusive HUD and the outline of characters. This shows me that Ubisoft is doing their best to make it a clean-cut game with as minimal 'out of the experience' things going on.

I think this review should calm those fears anyways. They said you sometimes can't tell if you're locked on or not. Wouldn't that mean that the outline isn't as noticeable as many of you are claiming? Or if it doesn't say that then it says they've listened to you and they have calmed it down to a less noticeable glow.

the screen almost fades to white when you lose sight of your target in the final chase - suggesting a break in the timeline.

That actually seems like quite a logical explanation of why there is the occasional fade to white. If one of the people escapes then that would mean that the memory is wrong because history tells us that this person died by the hand of an assassin.

I think their 'Need for Creed' paragraph says it best...

I think that riding horses goes with the assassin thing. They do have to travle to different locals in hot areas and they need to do it fast.

PS: Who cares what any one says about a game as long as you enjoy it. I agree about MGS. I havent played much of it, but a lot of time was spent learning the controls and I eventually got used to them. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif
