It seems as if some higher up in BdU doesn't like me. They ordered me to grid AN79, which is suicide if you ask me, and it shows. I am currently being tracked by 4 destroyers, and a squadron of unknown aircraft. I have already been damaged once in a WaBo attack, and I doubt we can hold for a second. We request Immediate Assistance! This is not a ploy like my last transmission. Contact! Destroyer Bearing 157 High Speed, less than 1000 meters!

06:46 Royal Navy destroyer HMS Windsor reports having depth charged enemy U-boat. She lost contact however due to torpedo damage sustained from the U-boat in question.

At 18:41, contact had yet to be reestablished with U-49. Presumed Lost with all hands.

At 9:27 Local Time June 3, 1940, local authorities reported pieces of a U-boat washing up on shore along with several bodies of sailors in Kreigsmarine uniforms, with papers identifying them as crew from the U-49.
