Hi Folks,

I have been away from flight sims for a while and was considering the IL-2 1946 DVD. I searched the forums but still had a question.

Will I be able to play just Forgotten Battles individually ? ( I wasn't sure if it was embedded into the Pacific Fighters install etc..) I know my system can handle the ground objects pretty well in FB but I suspect it will slow a bit in the later games.

Specs P IV 2.5, 1GB Single DDRRam, 128 ATI 9600XT.

Thanks in advance. jg1234

No, you won't be able to install just FB separately from the IL-2Sturmovik 1946 DVD. It installs a single merged game with all the paid add-ons: FB+AEP+PF+PE2+SoM+46

Thanks for the quick reply. I thought that might be the case. I was just looking at some reviews and I think I will still buy it.

Sounds like a real deal for 19.99 USD.

It is an incredible deal. With all stuff you get, it's really the only way to go. Once you do pick it up, I suggest you download the 4.08m patch, which adds a few more maps. Most of the campaign makers and online servers are using 4.08m now, so it's pretty much required.

Since the 1946 dvd installs to a totally new directory it is possible to have both a 1946 install and an FB only install.

Age of the 'chapters' really isn't much of a consideration when considering the graphics. FB introduced 'realistic' water options and higher polygon aircraft models w/ higher resolution skins ... that was a huge jump from the original IL-2 Sturmovik, but after that the technology didn't change much. AEP had a new option for rendering trees; PF had a some new clouds and a more complex FM code. Changes that had an impact were often offset by refinement and optimization in other areas. If you can run FB, I don't think the newer parts of the compilation will cause you much reason for concern.

It is.. consider this......

IL2-$50
Forgotten Battles - $40
The Aces Expansion Pack - $30
Pacific Fighters - $30
Pe-2 Peshka - $20
IL2 1946 _ $40

Thats $210.. and I am not talking tax here either... juxtaposed onto $20... a no brainer. Here's the kicker.... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/winky.gif ....

Do I feel ripped off? Would I have been better off forgoihg the past 5.XX years of flight sim joy to save $190?
