I am considering the purchase of Track IR and was wondering if anyone who has it could maybe make some suggestions. One point of interest: I bought PF so I have the coupon.

Thanks in advance.

TrackIR is a brand, or more specifically a product. http://www.naturalpoint.com/trackir/

More information on TrackIR and the only thing that comes close to being an alternative in this thread (http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums?a=tpc&s=400102&f=23110283&m=8451061142)

WORTH IT???!!! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif

Of course it's worth it. Mine cost me au$250-00 and I haven't regretted it for a moment. As they all say "Once ya got it, Ya won't be flyin' without it". http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

It really is that good (well definately to me anyway) http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/11.gif

Or for a cheaper alternative (as reffered to a few posts back) I suggest Cam2pan. 10 dollars for the software and webcam is all you need. I must say Im satisfied with its performance although I've never used TrackIR so I cant provide a direct comparison. All I know is that it works and Im happy with it, having saved myself more than 100 dollars at the same time.

asking if trackir is worth it is like asking if you should fly w/a joystick.....lol. seriously tho, it's the best $100 i ever spent (i got 30 off w/lockon).

My experiment with Cam2Pan was not very successful. The thing kept "loosing the center", and drifting around. This was OK when just flying around, as you could re-center pretty easily. But in combat, it just wasn't reliable.
Have they updated the software from the version I tried some months ago?

Another little tool that helps a little is JoytoKey, which allows much better panning than the stock POV switch on most joysticks. Not great, but an improvement. Free too.

Try Freelook (http://www.freelook.org). It's free (obviously) and works flawlessly, for me anyway. I did a little tweaking with it on installing and can find absolutely no reason to pay for a TrackIR setup. It couldn't work any better.

I'll say it again... free. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

TrackIR is a must have! And you should do it right and go with the TrackIR 3 Pro for the better processing, resolution and scan rate. The upgrade from TIR1 to TIR3Pro is night and day.
Also, unless you have a setup already (like a penlight attached to your headset, etc.) I recommend the naturalpoint cap for $20US. The reflective surface off the bill gives you that much more motion during a head turn so you get a better range and accuracy than with a reflective dot on your glasses.

With TIR3 you can de-program the snap views from your joystick hat, and after a bit of practics you can forget your padlock keys as well!

If i'd buy today, i'd make sure and get the Track-IR3 Pro.
The devs of Track-IR are working on new amazing things for Track-IR and it seems you'll need atleast a Track-IR 3 standard to be able to use theese features.
I have a Track-IR 2 (the predecessor of Track-IR 3) and i'm afraid i'll miss out on theese features.

What's upcoming?
Support for leaning your head, possibly also forward backward movement. In other words, you'll be able to use the Track-IR to not only look around, but too move around in the seat: Forward, backward to the sides/up, down!

Another advantage of the Track-IR, is all the 3rd party utils. Adding support for virtually any game that you look about in.
If you can look around by using keys or joystick or mouse in the game, you can do it with the Track-IR in any game!
You can assign keystrokes to certain headpositions, so you'd be able to trigger whatever you want really.
In a game where you don't need to look around, you could use Track-IR for other things:
Look slightly up to move forward, a little further to run and so on. :-)

Just an example, the imagination is the limit.

Just go and get it...

I took the plunge tonight. I have Trackir1, and love it. It works great, and I'm a happy customer. That's why the new purchase.

I kept reading how much better the 3 pro version is and the upgrade is worth the money, so it will be here in a few days. Anyone need trackir1 :-)

On servers that allow WW view (wonderwoman), there is no need for Tir. But, OMG, compete online on a server that only lets you fly with the cockpit on and you'll be the daddy of the skies, because Tir is essential to keep your 6 clear and also keep sight of the planes that your taking out. One thing that I have done, that I find essential is, using my Saitek programming software, when I press my Joy button 3 (centre under thumb button next to hat switch) my TIR gets disabled and view automatically centres. I find this works when I need to be steady on someones 6 for the killer shot.

I have Tir 3 pro, and can honestly say that it is an almost essential purchase if you want to be competative. Cheers, Neil.
