View Full Version : How do i stop choking?

I am sick to death of lining up a perfect kill, diving down on a helpless bomber from his high 9 o'clock, getting him in my sights, laughing as the hapless gunner tries to get a bead on me, only to have me overcorrect by a FRACTION resulting in me scaring the hell out of my prey but inflicting no real damage http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_mad.gif
Does anyone have any particular tricks that allows them to lock onto a target and remain locked on within range?
The only alternative to my opening scenario is that i get target fixated and collide with the bl**dy thing http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif

You want to lock on it? Fly an F-15.

Otherwise be more subtle with the controls.

I suppose what i'm really after is some tips regarding the range people fire and (especially) disengage from. I find that when i'm in a dive my airspeed is high enough to keep me safe but doesnt give me enough 'kill time'.
If i was a crack shot it would of course be easier but i find i tend to fall onto my opponents six and follow them around, mostly out of frustration that it takes me so long to line up a shot only to miss.

it takes practce to be sure. first what kinda fighter do you normaly fly. for now lets say a p51 or f4u-4. i always set my convergence to 500.0. as i drop in on them i dive with my gun sight aimed well behind them till i get to about .75 so when i do pull up for the shooting there not so far under my noose. i normly start shooting at about .65 and dont stop till i fly behind and under them.

now i would recomend to pratce in quick mission just you and a bomber or two. you can even go into your .config and set arcade to =1 that will show you weather or not your makeing hits by showing arrows wear your shots hit. also dont bother hiting on the main body of a large bomber couse i find that does little. go for the wings and engiens. head on pass's work well to.

Remember to fly/aim where the plane is going to be when you get there. It's much easier to hold your plane steady that way.

LMFAO!!!!!

If you people dont understand this joke, please ask him to explain it. If I dont see 1,000,000 "LMFAO"'s within a day, I will assume that you all lack the mental capacity to understand the joke, or are just jealous that you didn't think of a joke this good on your own and will just decide to ignore it (like you do with all of his other comical genius). "LOL" away, mateys.

I find adjusting elevator trim to slightly nose down before the attack helps so I'm not having to contend with the slop in the centre of the stick movement.

True! You can laugh without posting it my friend, but at least aknowledge the joke. It's simply common courtesy to commend someone on a joke that's this far off the r0xx0rz scale.

To come in from high 9 or 3 o'clock is the best way .

My tip is to start firing 1 sec bursts from distance already, in a turn after the enemy so U pass him from about 4 or 5 o'clock.
The curved approach makes U a bit more stable and it's a good idea to trim the nose down so it dont pull up by itself. Pushing the stick forward in most planes is a bad when aiming or firing and its easy to miss even from dead 6 if not trimmed out properly.

This curve should also leave you with enough speed to climb up and away for a new attack on the opposit side. This way U can attack in a zig-zag pattern several times without problem, when familiar with it.

The perhaps most difficult part in the beginning is to learn to fire earlier and to keep the curve smooth.
