View Full Version : OSX Port

I know I asked this a while ago about an OSX port of IL-2/FB/ACE but I just wondered why - its apparently a no-no. But, if all the code has already been done for the game engine then surely Oleg & Co would only have to do work on the front end and make it available for the Mac and potentially more revenue?

Does anyone have any more info on this scenario? NO PLATFORM WARS PLEASE! Just answers http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I think you have to do more work than just deal with the front end. The Mac's use an entirely different base level coding that makes transitioning code between one to another a sometimes complicated process.

With something like a flight sim...that's got to be nasty. I would imagine FB's engine is written with low level code right from the beginning which means its optimized and built for PC architecture.

I think it'd probably be a huge effort to undertake to grab another 4% of the potential market. I sell Mac's...so I'm not bashing them (I don't personally like them but I understand them and their uses) but they aren't really flight sim material. They tend to be marketed for and are useful for multimedia applications and publishing stuff. Professionally oriented machines with the occasional fun stuff thrown in.

Hmmm... thanks for the reply IceFire, at least someone has something to say to help enlighten me http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif (apart from Tully)

I only wondered about a port since I have seen it done with so many other games like 'Medal of Honour', 'Unreal Tournament', 'Myth', 'Myst' etc. I Guess as you say, getting a flight sim to work would be a nightmare http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/53.gif

Spose I have to play Warbirds on the Mac http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/59.gif
