There has been talk on the 1C website about a release date for SOW, anyhow i thought i would investigate further and i decided to phone Ubisoft in the UK to see what i could find out.
This is the address and phone number.

Business office
1st Floor
Chertsey Gate East
London Street
Chertsey

KT16 8AP

Tel: +44 (0)1932 578 000
Fax: +44 (0)1932 578 001

So, i asked about the release date for Storm of War, the guy had never heard of it and said he would have to ask someone else, he came back some time later and said that one guy knew of the title, he said we have no release date and no involvement with the title whatsoever, he said it appears we were involved with a company called 1C but that 1C was bought out last month by a Russian Company. He stated that UBIsoft have no involvement with SOW and have no info at all on any release date. If you dont believe me then ring em yourself.
It sounds very much like my mate who is a buyer for a big gaming store was 100% correct when he told me that no-one at ubisoft had heard of this product

Well hopefully it will be released by a publisher that actually gives a damn about it! I for one am glad, it makes me furious everytime I think about how the best flight sim on the market was so crappily promoted and handled.

I heard you on that one http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

How many people would be flying this thing if it had the same media coverage, commercials, etc, that CFS had?...and that series was cr@p compared to this...especially now.

1c being bought out isn't exactly stellar news....

Sounds like another Sentry Studios :/

Hard information at last. But over at 1C Crazy Ivan says 1C bought a company, not the other way around, but he won't clarify why for ages the line has been no news about BOB due to Ubi, which he doesn't deny has nothing to do with BOB.

The secrecy about this item is positively Stalinist.

1C bought out a Russian games company.... NOT the other way around.

The correspondant might be correct that BoB isn't on UBI's release or they may not even be publishing it anymore, but if the man got the first part wrong regarding the purchase of 1C then how can we accept his info on UBI being the publisher or not?

Sorry, man. This shows or proves nothing, but instead fans the flames of speculation and frustration.

I know your heart's in the right place Tree, but this isn't helping.

READ Ivan's reply @ 1C.

I hear what your saying knight, but you have to take into consideration that the guy at Ubisoft uk had never heard of SOW, he said he would ask some colleagues if they knew of the title. after sometime he came back to me and said that one guy knew of it but that Ubisoft were not involved and had no plans to release it, he said his colleague had told him that the developers 1C had been bought out. It seems that he had got this information upside down but that is hardly surprising considering he knew nothing about this software. Anyway if anyone would like further clarification they could always ring up Ubi on the number above. All i can say is that the guy i spoke to was very helpful and spent a considerable amount of time trying to answer my question.

I know what you're saying. I appreciate the effort. I really do, and I'm positive you mean to dispell the frustration we all have regarding the 'blackout' for BoB.

I on the other hand am as equally frustrated by some of the rampant rumours and fretting. (not that I mean your efforts per se)

Someone posts one thing. Another reads it and reposts on another forum, and soon it's only partially correct, thus leading to more misinformation and speculation...... leading to more and wilder innuendo.

Again. I know you meant well. You certainly wen't a giant step above the normal routine folks do when searching for hard evidence. I just didn't feel the need for this to go too much farther without clarification. You understand, capice'?

I twould be a bad move on UBI's part to miss out on SOW:BOB.

The IL2 forums are the most popular and posted in forums at UBI by far.

They would be daft to lose access to that even if the game only broke even in profits. Check out how active the IL2 forum is compared to others :-

http://www.ubi.com/UK/Community/Default.aspx

A community with access to that number of people is worth a lot of money.

Yes i understand you Knight, i just want everyone to know that i only phoned Ubisoft in the first place because of the original posting on the 1C website stating that the game maybe released in September, there was obviously much discussion about this so i took it upon myself to phone Ubi and simply ask the question. I wasn't trying to uncover a major scoop. I would also like to stress again that the information i was given in no way suggest that SOW is vapourware, it merely suggest that at best there is considerable confusion over who the publisher is.

Tree, you acted in good faith. I can't say the same about the official spinmeister at 1C.

Guys i probably missed out the most important bit of why i originally phoned Ubisoft, i phoned because Newegg were taking pre-orders for a release date of 02/09/2008, it is clearly obvious to most of us that SOW will not be released at that time, newegg are advertising that the publisher is Ubisoft. I decided to clarify the release date with ubisoft and got the info posted above. Hopefully not too many people have sent their hard earned cash off to Newegg.
Really you would expect to see a statement from either 1C or ubi telling us forum users not waste our cash, but i guess that is asking to much.

sounds to me that either we will never see this game in a store...OR it will come out eventually

It's not the number of forum posters what makes the decision, but the number of sales. Other games may have not so much active forums, but that's because the kids playing them are more concerned about playing that about commenting it. But the sales speak of themselves: flight sims can't compete with popular FPS or RTS games, and UBI is in it for the money, not for the quality or activity of the fora.

Maybe I missed something but I don't think that it would make any difference if we call wether or not. They say something, we guess something, nobody knows anything so it is just a matter of wait and see. For the time being we still have this game and the mods to keep us satisfied.

The only time I will call when it has something to do with a delivery date is when my local supermarket ran out of beer. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

If 1C was going to go with a different publisher for non-Russian sales, I'd hope it would be someone like Matrix Games or Battlefront.com. They aren't the biggest boys on the block, but they are two of the better publishers when it comes to caring about realistic wargames/sims.

Yeah the unfounded rumors that fly around here are astounding sometimes.

Lets get this straight ... 1C (which is NOT Maddox games, just the distributor for them) bought out Buka. Not the other way around.

Here are some details cut and paste from
http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/1c-company-acquir...ival-publisher-buka (http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/1c-company-acquires-rival-publisher-buka))

The Eastern European-based 1C Company has announced it has acquired one of the Russia's largest videogame publishers, BUKA.

Currently there are no plans to merge the two Russian gaming giants, but the managers of both companies will now work together in their publishing, distributing and marketing activities.

"BUKA is one of the oldest players on the Russian game market. I always admired the company, its corporate culture, staff, management and operational efficiency," said Boris Nuraliev, director of 1C Company.

"The mutual potential of 1C and BUKA opens new unique opportunities and will help us to achieve success on this challenging and rapidly growing market. It will be an honour for us to develop such a well-known and popular brand."

This follows 1C Company's acquisition of the Russian developer Ino-Co, the team behind Star Wolves and Fantasy Wars, last year.
