Get your bony butts down to New Smyrna to take a ride on one of these guys http://www.collingsfoundation.org/cf_schedule-wof.htm

The first date is January 14-16 in New Smyrna which is about 5 minutes from my house! They will only fly if there are at least 6 people and you can roam freely throughout the aircraft once airborne.

$400 USD for a ride of a lifetime? What're you waiting for?

I may have three people at this point, but I'll be really p!ssed if I can't ride cause we're one short. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_mad.gif

Stand behind the B 17 when it runs up engines and you can re-live a hurricane

Same here. Don't scare us like that.

EAA Chapter180 in Sarasota, FL. went up on these flights last year and captured some video.

Both the B17 and B24 were in our city earlier in Summer. I find that the B24 is much more comfortable to walk around in than the B17. Both great planes.

Is it $400 per person, or per flight? I hope they come up North, I'd consider it http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Use to be $99 many years ago but that b17 crashed recently, sentimental journey i think it was that its gear collapsed when landing.

Having been hit hard by three of the four hurricanes that hit Florida this past season, I can understand your cincerns about the thread title...There was no intention to alarm especially in light of the recent natural disaster in Thailand and surrounding areas.

I've been a member and followed the Collings Foundation for the last 4 years and have never been quite able to work the Money+Time equation to allow me to take one of these rides. I've been around them plenty and been on them a few times but never ridden.

The cost id $400 per person and includes a short ride of 30-45 minutes. They say they need 6 passengers in order to fly it and once you're airborne you can move freely throughout the aircraft including all crew postions (with the exception of Pilot and Co-Pilot).

It seems the opportunity to experience this gets less frequent and more expensive every year. If you haven't done this before and have the chance fall in your backyard...take it.
