Trying to make my way back from South Afrika to Bergen and I know I'm not gonna make it. Fuel is reaching a quarter and I am just approaching Freeport. I have read of hints of resupply with some pissed off bosses at the admiralty. The suspense is killing me. Somebody tell me. What's gonna happen when I run out of fuel? You do need the deisel to recharge batteries, right? And where do they get off sending me all the way to SA from Bergen in a IXD2 boat?

I suggest you just hit escape and select end patrol BEFORE you run out of fuel. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif

Have you already tried running at a slower speed, say Ahead Slow maybe?

Been doing that and submerging since before SA. Hate to punch out before getting back because I'll lose the renoun.

You lose renown if you hit escape and end patrol before physically making it back to base!?!?!
Ah hell! I had no idea.

Pity they have not modelled secret supply depots in the game ! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif ..Just had a strange idea €¦

I remember reading somewhere about U-boats occasionally pulling into Spanish Ports for re-supply (Spain ostensibly being neutral €" but for fascism, €˜fashionably€ pro-German).
Has anyone ever tried sneaking into and docking at an enemy port for re-supply? lol http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
Gibraltar might pose some tactical problems €" I don€t know: but what about slipping quietly into Casablanca?

Really wondering what would happen!

Cheers!

The best place to test that is Bergen Norway during that short time they are enemy during the start of a carrer.

They don't have any DD or Air cover. You can sail right in and check to see if you can dock.

One Spanish port during WWII "Looked the other way" while interned German merchant ships secretly refuelled and resupplied U-Boats occasionally. I believe the port was Vigo, Spain. Watch the movie "Das Boot" or "The Boat." They do exactly this in the movie.

You can try installing the milk cow mod and then docking in Las Palmas in the Canary Islands. I know that you shouldn't install mods during patrols, but this is an emergency, after all.

I docked in the Canary Islands, Las Palmas if I recall correctly. There is a big German merchant vessel there. I refueled and then continued my patrol. I had not yet fired any torpedoes when I refueled, so I can't say for sure if you can get those as well.

Let us know what happens in the end. We're all anxiously awaiting your report, Herr Kaleun.

I docked at Brest instead of St. Nazaire once because of lack of fuel. My next mission was: Get back to St. Nazaire, but with a full tank and fresh torps.

But your are screwed basically, just hit escape and return to base before fuel is out and you will only miss 100 reknown for not really returning to base. Take it like a man and move on.

There is a bug in the game, which means, if you stay surfaced and not moving at all (diesel engines off), then the batteries will recharge anyway! It's true! I have done it! So surface, recharge, submerge, continue the journey till recharge is needed and so on! Or loose the renown for not docking!

I am personally making a mod (Unchange of RuB1.43), which changes some of the RuB mod features back to original values, but modifies other things as well, and changing the renown to a higher amount for returning a sub is one of them in the next edition...

Take it like a man and restart your career. You would have to scuttle the uboat and surrender to the brits in africa http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Sorry for you http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

I've gone below 0 before on diesel and still been able to drive on my IXB.

I think it's a bug...

You can always just hit ESC...or find an island with lots of coconuts, bananas and exotic wildlife in grass skirts! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I'm in a similar situation now, on my way home from S. Afrika. I didn't go all the way to my patrol grid, GR53, as I had only 1/2 tank of fuel and 1 torp left about 600 KM short. I just past Freeport on the way North with about 3/8 fuel left. I am running slow speed submerged until 10% battery then surface long enough to gett 100% then back down. Last check my nav. said 7200 KM to get home to Bergen and running surfaced at 1/3 he said I have fuel for 4500 KM. I have a IXc on patrol 16. Just hoping I don't get hit too hard for not making patrol area. Last patrol was to N.Y., that took some fuel management too. C.E. said I had 0 fuel while heading North up English Channel, got into Bergen with 130 KM of fuel @ 5KM left.

Happy to report that I did get back, without cheating or using the bug but, I'll tell ya, it was a long and monotinous haul of surfacing, recharging and immediately diving, using the electrics on slow to the very last drop. To top it off, I had severe stormy weather from N.Af to North Sea and actually returned home with a couple of torps and not much of a renoun count. On the upside, the next mission is just to the DH area. A cake walk! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif
