This game is available cheap in the shops of West Aussie, I am wondering if this is a "must have classic" like IL2 or a waste of 20.00 australian.

Comments please

It's pretty good, especially with mods installed.
go to http://www.subsim.com (http://subsim.com) and have a poke around, particularly the forums.

It's a classic. Possible the best sub game ever published, including SH4, thought that may be up for debate. Graphics are still very nice. Get the Grey wolves supermod and you are set up for years.

Well I just bought it cheaply 2 weeks ago, and subsequently installed the GWX (the Gray Wolves expansion) on top of it straight away too. Haven't really tried my hand on it yet, though, because the learning curve looks something awful. This surely isn't your average arcade shooter, that much is clear already anyway!

Get it is my advice http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Do yourself a huge favour - BUY it!
Have had this game for approx 12 months and still lose weekends to it.

But, do yourself a favour and read the manual..

Ionly have a geforce FX5700LE vid card, 1 gig ram, soundcard & a P4 3.0/3.2 PC. Are these requirements adequate?

You might want to ask that question on the Subsim or SHIII forums. Unless someone here has the same set-up that they are using and can answer that better.

Be informed though, that SHIII uses Starforce. (hopefully this won't start a flaming inferno... http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif )

You may want to get a new vid card. I have Geforce 6600GT, which is enough to run SH3 on full settings, but getting old nevertheless.
That aside you are ready to go.

I have the very same RAM and Geforce with a P4 2,4Ghz and I can play it rather well (I got it since release and still play it sometimes http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif )

Bewolf,

I have the same video card as you... As a new player and since you look like an experienced IL-2 player, may I ask what are your il2setup video settings?

with my nights suddenly not full of flight sim work to do, i will start playing SHIII again. Looking forward to SHIV. The Microprose "Silent Service" got me into sims in the first place

BBB462cid & Ploughman... Don't forget the Grey Wolf's Expansion Addon after you downloaded and ran the game. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

You can find it at either site.
