CeleonāĀ“s PC is absolutely independent of lightnings aswell as the normal power grid. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

But cooling this power supply is still something that requiers ....... ehhhmmm... a lot of attention and hard work.

Okay...gotta ask...what exactly is the psu handling...do you have a list...are you the power distribution site for your neighborhood?

600 watts are good.......for the beginning... http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

But Celeon needs more !

CeleonāĀ“s modding cathodes alone leech 600 watts !
http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/59.gif

Thats why Celeon designed his own power grid independent psu. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

I was driving down the road when suddenly there was a sharp crack and the smell of ozone in the air, I looked up in the sky and it didn't appear to be a thunderstorm brewing..so what was that crack?
As I was topped this little rise in the road the smell of ozone became very strong and suddenly there was multiple cracks of lightning.

I spied this lonely house behind a grove of trees...ahhh I will stop there, About that time the air begin to hum and the smell of ozone was almost overpowering when a lightning bolt struck the house and seemed to dissapear in this odd looking bar on the roof of the house

Question for Bunker Rat: with the liquid cooling hooked up, how do you cope with having to move it? Do you have to disassemble it? I'm thinking along the lines of say, you have it set up and for some reason you have to move it, [Mrs. Rat divorces you http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif] or take it out of the house for some reason. How would you manage something like that?

As we go into winter here, we get these amazing electric storms, where the lightning travels from horizon to horizon in about a second with branches lasting 2 to 3 secs. I see if I can take some photos of these, and post them.

actually it's not hard to move it at all the main coller unit sits on top the hoses are routed through an expansion slot i mean yes you have to be carful but you can move the system and thwe cooler as 1 unit i'll post a picor 2 for you to see the setup more clearly..and the new psu is in working fine now to go put some real big magnets inthe power meter... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/59.gif..oops forgot to mention i also have a factory made sling cradle for when it needs to be moved in a car to a shop or whatever..it cost 25 usd... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

Cool, I'd like to see a picture of that sling! I've always made do with the three point seatbelt. I would put it in the front seat and then strap her down tight. A sling would be even better.

That reminds me of an episode of "King of the Hill." Hank was taking his guitar to the shop for a repair. He told his son, Bobby, to sit in the middle, so his guitar "could be in front of the airbag." Hilarious! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif

I had a bit of an oops today. I was installing a card reader in the 3.5 inch floppy drive bay. Instead of being careful and consulting the motherboard manual, I guessed at the wiring for the USB lead. I guess I reversed them, because as soon as I powered on the system, smoke came off the board. I turned it off immediately, but the heat from the short melted the insulation off of the ground wire. Luckily, no damage to motherboard and amazingly the card reader still functions. This was on my old P4 system, not my Athlon gaming rig.

The device has probably got 'reverse polarity' protection = A power diode (you might find that this is cooked - blown apart). You might find that the next time you do this again the card reader will pop.
Open up the card reader/mobo and look for any components that look swollen, cracked or blackened. Usually one can replace these 'carefully'

No, no, nothing like that. I'm Canadian, not Nigerian! I should clarify: by card reader I mean memory card reader, for digital camera memory cards. I want to be able to just put the card in the reader instead of hooking up the cables from the camera to upload digital pics.

I love those Nigerian letters I get in Hotmail:

Hello Sirs/Madam:

As you may now, I am the gReat Uncol of Mambuto Nkwari, the late petrolium minster of Nigeria Oil Co. who was kilt in gorilla upriseing of late lst year. I now you are good and holy persoon how can be trusteed. My famly needs you kind peson to transfer money from secret Swis bank acct. You may keep 10% as handling fee for your personl services.
