I thought that il2 was released free a while back, is this true? Thanks http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Nope, not free. Trust me, it's worth every penny you spend on it. And also, your money goes to making the product better. So do yourself a favor, treat yourself to this game, be enveloped in a new virtual world.

Nope, buy the game please.

It was given away with some joysticks i think thats the first version...... but you can pick it up for a pund or 3 these days, you want to get the later ones as they have a heck of a lot more planes maps and carriers etc...... the 3 version merged version is the best either forgotten battles and aep aces add on or the gold pack version and pacific fighters as well

There is a FREE demo online that features about 4 of the planes to try

Virtually all of us use the Gold Pack with PF and before you ask if it's "worth it" consider that if you like WWII combat flight sims, you will love this very extensive game and get years of play out of it rather than a few hours before getting bored like many of the other games you popped off $40.00 U.S. for.

Whe you break the cost of the game down to hours actually played at an enjoyable level, this game is dirt cheap at twice the price.

I think I did see where it was given away as part of a software bundle with the purchase of new products like joysticks and video cards.

There was also a new il2 demo version 2 available.

Yeah, I saw the original IL2 included with a set of CH pedals at Fry's Electronics. www.outpost.com (http://www.outpost.com)

I've also seen it in bargain bins at various stores for $5.00 US.

A quite impressive demo for the original Sturmovik is available for free. ~450 MB, downloadable.

I got a copy free with my Cougar HOTAS. Now I have 3 copies. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif

Like the other gentlemen above said, this game and expecially the merged game (all parts included) IS WORTH OF EACH AND EVERY CENT you ever put on it. There are hectic training weeks and -months waiting for you as well as years of online combats... or offline combats if you like so!

Have a nice day,

In terms of time spent vis a vis cash spent, I've NEVER spent my cash better for anything I think! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/11.gif

How the very same people who whine about the cost of this game are also willing to go out time and time again and but some fist person shooter game for $40.00 U.S. and play it for 4 hours, get bored and then repeat the process is beyond me. Even with the substantial costs of upgrades to get this demanding game running well, when I take the money spent and divide it by the number of hours played with enjoyment instead of to boredom, it is still dirt cheap entertainment!
