Somehow I stumbled on this website, on which the original Memphis Belle documentary is posted, released to the public:

Although a product very much of its time, I was truely impressed with the colour footage. It gives a different dimension to the whole film.

I almost hate to say it, but I really don't like seeing that B-17 painted up like the Belle. First off, it's actually a "G" that was modified to look more like an "F" for the 1990 movie. (For a long time it flew without the chin turret.( There's also several significant problems with the paint job (I understand some of these changes were requested to differentiate it from the real Belle).

I'd rather see it painted up like just about any other B-17G; there's so many to choose from.

As for archive.org, don't miss the movie "Combat America" which is available as well. Good stuff!

best B17 film along with '12 o'clock High' is 'The Warlover' with Steve McQueen and Robert Wagner...especially the first 10-20 minutes...

the dialogue between the pilot and the crew chief as they walk around the bomber is really well done...

I'm not up on all the documentary films - but I suppose there might be one or two worth looking at.

and I agree with Jarink...it should be an -F

isn't the real one still around? I thought it was taken down to Texas for restoration a year or so ago...no?

The last I read the original Memphis Belle was returned to the National Museum of the United States Air Force in Dayton, Ohio for restoration.
