View Full Version : IL2 is fun!

As I'm sure you are aware, IL2 is really fun!

I just had a blast last night and wanted to share. As some of you know, I am nearing the end of a very long Sturmovik campaign having beaten the Hun back to Berlin from his initial invasion several hundred campaign missions ago.

After completing a campaign mission decimating a German convoy near an enemy airfield, I flew a couple single missions for the Ta-152, first escorting cargo planes and later intercepting a night time bombing raid. They were just a blast. At one point a bomber landed a few rounds in my plane and my engine died. As I struggled to glide back to friendly lines I somehow managed to get the engine started again and, after tentatively nursing it a bit, had it back in tip top shape gaining speed. I reversed course and returned to the fight and downed two more bombers before the last one managed to escape and flee back home.

I am really looking forward to taking on some of the user created campaigns once I see the war to its conclusion in the Sturmovik campaign.

(And yes, eventually I'll go online and let you all shoot my wings off.)

Il2 is definitely fun. It is also challenging, non repetitive and immersive.
There are so many factors that have kept Il2 on my Hard Drive all these years.

Really??? Is that why I have been playing this game for nigh on 8 years now?

Eight years. Amazing.

How many other games have we played for half that time? The only ones I can think of for me are:

> Combat Mission: Barbarossa to Berlin

And of course:
> Flight Simulator series.

And that's it. Nothing else comes close.

yes, no game has drawn me in . . .

not even the social / mmo's like evercrack and warcrack.

come to think of it . . . building a dual core wit vid card to make the most of highest il-2 settings

Pleasure to meet you Noobisoft. I know exactly how you feel. I love flying in this sim. Mostly do squad stuff with the 99th but I still fly offline. Hope you enjoy yourself and this sim for many years to come.

Thank you Worf,

For those interested, after nearly 280 missions, we captured Berlin and Germany surrendered!! The end of the war was a bit underwhelming. The final briefing was just like any other briefing in which we changed sectors, but there were no more missions afterwards. If figured we'd at least get a bottle of beer and a ribbon or something!

Oh well. With no more Hun to beat back, I spent last night in a single mission getting separated from the bombers I was supposed to be escorting and getting lost over the pacific. I'll see about downloading a custom campaign tonight!
