I gotta get this off my chest. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_mad.gif Since E3 and the announcement that SOWBOB will be out in November there has been literally nothing but skeptiscism and negative vibs around this forum?
Oleg has given us so much and done his best to be helpful then when a release date is announced everyone is a f*cking expert with their no-no thats not possible I don't see how, even though they don't know anything about development about video games or about 3D modeling.

Heres a couple points I want to make:

1. Oleg is very aware how fickle and skeptical the crowd is here for this genre. Although dates do often get pushed back he knows the backlash that will ensue and had that in mind when he announced the date.

2. Every publisher and developer knows that when release dates are pushed back months for a game a lot of momentum and interest is lost. Plain and simple unless something catastrophic happens neither UBI, 1c, or Oleg has any desire to announce November and have the game hit shelves in June 07.

3. BoB has been in the works for years now. IIRC the first screen shots were posted in Summer of 2004!!!! Thats almost two years ago and the game was in development months before that!

4. Everyone whines what about FB and the new add-ons? Well what about it? The reason why its taken 18 months since PF's release to add maybe 20 aircraft 3 maps to the game isn't because BoB is the side project!!!! Its because FB is the side project, Oleg has made is clear that all work on FB is sidework on the back burner (since PF's release) because of BoB:SOW not the other way around.

5. Oleg obviously has tricks up his sleeve, like every developer. By releasing screenies and little clips of the game anticipation will develop however they don't want to release everything to potential competitors until its out. Common sense, those screen shots and presentation videos that the simhq guys saw at E3 may be 2 or 3 months old!

Anyways, mods dont ban me I don't want to start a war, I just want to show my support and defense for the real experts not all the 10 cent ones that think they know everything on here!

Whew, I feel much better now! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Also, some make lemonade from lemons, others just crave more of the same sourness. Can't explain it, but accept it.

Oh I agree, I'm just pointing out that literally everything has assumed this won't happen.

Well, it is a reasonable assumption based on the data we have (or at least suppose we have), namely:

- Maddox Games has not met a release date yet for any of the Il-2 series

- Based on the patches and add-ons that have come out even in the last few months for PF, it is assumed that only a partial team has so far put in any work on BoB, and it is not expected they will be able to finish what is supposed to be a ground breaking sim in under 7 months.

Good post Darkhorizon http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

Oleg has been working on BOB for years. If he says it will be released this November, then he good reason to believe it. But as Oleg and anyone else who has ever created anything knows... things don't always go as planned. There is a good chance there will be delays, so don't sweat it. Its not some dark plan.

Hopefully it will all come together and we will be enjoying some great screenshots in the coming months. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Dude, IIRC, it was NOT Oleg that said Nov 2006, but Ubirazz so it is the publisher that is pushing the date. It might be a way of putting pressure on 1C who knows? Unless you have a direct quote from Oleg...even then I won't sweat it if it is delayed.

It will be here when its here and good things come to those that wait.

Lets face it, no matter how good it is it will never be good enough for some.

This community sometimes reminds me of my kids:"Are we there yet?Are we there yet?....etc"

Ok,November 2006 if you ensist.it will be so buggy that we will have it patched up in March to get reasonable gameplay out of SOW.

Oleg has been working on BOB for years. If he says it will be released this November:

Oleg did not say that, he also remarked, in one of his latest interviews, that he did never give any release date for SoW-BoB.

With the three add-ons, and hopefully the last free add-on, IL2-FB will have even more possibilities to be enjoyed, I'm not holding my breath for BoB, though I'll surely buy it when it will be out.

I do not believe that they can can a working game out in 6 months if they do not even have a working alpha build at the E3 show.

The Nov. date was just a paper launch by Ubisoft to appease their shareholders.

I think BoB is a conspiracy of programmers and does not really exist.

The cost of any project is always under estimated and they are always late, it€s the way it works.
The estimated time of completion is always optimistic.
Who is this bob guy anyway? If he€s causing trouble have a word with him.

Do you actually think that the UBI and Oleg didn't consult about the release date. Don't tell me that UBI forced Oleg to release BOB in November. It didn't happen. They may have asked for a November release but Oleg is way to much a perfectionist to release a buggy unfinished product.
It serves no purpose to announce a product for November where there is no chance for that product to be released.

Oleg's words? "We'll be in BETA by the end of 2006, the earliest"... Those date several months back.

Chivas
05-22-2006, 12:08 PM
Yes that was after the PF delayed BOB considerably. I think the quote was a beta in 2006 with no mention of "end of 2006, the earliest" Do you have a link?

Still the fact remains that Oleg has been working on BOB for years and its not out of the question for a completed BOB in November. I personally think there will be multiply "two week delays" http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif Nothing as complicated as BOB can be expected to go smoothly to completion.

That being said its also possible things went better than planned. Try creating something...it never pans out completely to what you invisioned.

I do not think Ubi listens to Oleg at all.If so there would not have been the Boonty debacle.

Ubi has stockholders to answer to and does what pleases them.

Oleg has said he has a good relationship with UBI. If not he could have found another publisher for BOB.

No link but I remember clearly. It was a while ago though... but it'd also be the first time I see a game's development taking shorter than expected...

I can't help but feel that the BoB game will generate a lot more interest at E3 if it's being presented as a 2006 release instead of a 'sometime in 2007 release'.
It seems like a marketing ploy to announce the release of the game later this year (I don't mean that Oleg is behind it).

The development team haven't even decided yet whether or not the AI will model large bomber formations as 'bubbles'. It seems a bit late in the game to decide such a thing if the release is due this year. I am prepared and willing to be surprised if the release comes this year.
