Try to find a 9800pro...alot of bang for the buck, the newest cards are great , but too expensive for not much more. Unless you intend to play Doom3 ect. then you might want to spend more.

Now running 1152x864x32 ATI~9200 all settings Excellent (but with Perfect clouds), and am looking forward to a "mainstream" ATI~9800UltraPro (or whatever) later this year.

I was running the 9600 until just recently...then went up to 9800pro.

Found the 9600 actually pretty good - no problems with it at all, but the price difference now to go to the 9800 is pretty low so might as well go there.

The 9800 would be a better choice, especially since the price dropped on those when ATI released the XT series. The 9800s are very heavily supported by game software.

Personally, I own (and inexorably reccommend) the 9800 PRO with 256MB of Video ram.

9800 Pro or a 660GT would be a good choice.

6600GT if the white shadows thing gets fixed

You don't mention a price range or whether it needs to be AGP...
I use an ATI Radeon X850 XT Platinum edition card, and it's great. It Should be good for a while to come.
Buy the best/most recent card you can afford.
Think of BoB...

Exactly...think BOB, buy a new card when BOB gets out, until then get a cheap 9800pro, theres plenty of time to enjoy it.

i have ze 6600gt.

yes i do get white shadows.

i only notice it when ive bailed out or crash landed.

the rest of the time the white shadows are virtually impossible to see, as im not concentrating on the ground several thousand feet below me?

for the bang for the buck it provides, its the best value card for this kind of thing.

to ignore it due to this amazingly insignificant effect on the game is astoundingly narrow minded. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif

well in the 200 to 250 range id go with the 6600gt. in all the beanchs IV seen it owns the 9800pro when the res AA and AF start going up.

the only advantge I can see with the 9800 pro is the extra memory but weather or not it will be fast enough when games that realy need it comes out i dont know.

eather one of those would be a good card.

in the 400 range i cant say. the new x850pros i have not read about. i will say that my 6800gt performs very well. there is a issue with heat. weather or not the heat temps that people have been reporting is realy a problem or not remaions to be seen. maby the cards were disigned to run at this temps. i dont know. i will say mine has gottn to 92.C with no problems so who knows. i think though if i had it to do all over again id go with ati once more.

if your looking for something in the 50 to 150 range id have to go with a 9600xt but to be honst id recomend that you atleast save up the extra and get the 9800pro or 6600gt.

look man....

do NOT listen to any of those guys. you need at LEAST a 6800GT or an X800 PRO.

both are about 375 dollars american now.

thats minimum card needed. the new flight models and new clouds are gonna hit everyones FPS a bit and on top of that Battle of Britain is coming out.

i dont care if you cant afford 375 you will need it.

if you can afford more then go 6800 ULTRA or X850

I must agree with RedDeth here.

The ATI 9XXX cards are now a generation behind.

I am running a 6800GT, and even on the busiest online servers I get 65fps avg. with perfect settings, water = 1, trees = 2.

The 6600GT (or comparable ATI card) should now be viewed as the minimun spec cards. I know many folks who will blast this statement, but wait until the new clouds/FM appear.

i have douts as to how much the new FM is going to hit cards. cpus and maby ram but gpus ...i dont know. maby there right. i will say that unless you have something cpu wise faster than what i have or play at very high res i dont think you will see a huge deff going from a 6600gt to a 6800gt. i had the 6800"wich is right at the power of a 6600gt" and now by luck i have a 6800gt and you know how many FPS i gained in this game ...or D3 and HL2 ....zero. the resone even my 64bit 3000 cpu is a bottle neck for both cards.the only gains i saw so far is in 3dmark03 were i gained 3000 points. now if you plan on upgradeing or already have a very fast cpu then thats just something to think about. also if you do plan to upgrade your cpu and Mobo you may want to figure in weather or not you want your next MOBO to be PCIE. if so and that upgrade is less than a year away then IMO it might be wastfull to spend the extra 200 bucks on a 6800gt ect.

as far as BOB goes. how far away is that game. a year? two years? by then even a mid range card will more than likely out pace anything you can buy now. at least in two years lol.

but all this is just my opinion and im not trying to say i know any more than any one else. just giveing you my thoughts.

I upgraded to the 6800GT strictly for the new water graphics in Pacific Fighters and I absolutely love it.

If you`re on a budget then a 6600GT if not then a 6800GT or ultra or get an SLI compliant mobo and get two http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

My Advise is to get a current mainstream card for now. Do not go blow lots of money on the latest generation card if your goal is to be ready for BoB. Tomorrow, I'll be picking up my brand new custom built PC my Mom and I built. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/34.gif This is her 6th machine shes put together and my first high end PC. It's got a ATI all in wonder graphics card for now. But later AFTER I get BoB or when we know exactly what the specs are for BoB will I determine what next graphics card to get. My opinion and I'm stickin to it! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif
