View Full Version : What are your most embarrassing moments online?

Just like the title implies, I wanna hear your most embarrassing moments online.

Mine would have to be the first time I flew on the red side.

The sides were quite uneven so I decided the switch sides to help achieve a fair balance. The server I was always flying on used icons. It was the Russian winter map and IIRC a 42/43 planeset.

I jumped in a LaGG and headed off to the battle. On my way I met three planes flying in formation. I used the clouds to sneak around them for a better position. It was the perfect situation. Now I was above the at their 6.

I choose the outside plane closest to the nearest cloud. My first attack was great; he was going down smoking, engine stopped and I was already gaining alt through the clouds.

When I came out of the clouds I noticed the 2 planes were still flying straight and it seemed they never noticed their comrad was gone. I repeated my tactic, got a lot of hits on the next victim, and went into the clouds again. Coming out of the clouds I was lucky enough to be over them. They were seperating and headed in opposite directions but still hadn't seen me.

I droped down on the injured victim and quickly finished him off. Then I turned to meet the final enemy plane. We were going at it headon. I fired and got a few hits. He hadn't fired. I pulled a tight loop and was now chasing him. In a short time I was on his 6. My enemy was weaving from side to side but not much, just enough to view me. I realized his pattern and concentrated on well timed bursts. I knew my ammo must have been getting low so I didn't want to waste.

This guy kept flying relative straight. "What a noob" I was thinking. Finnally I had damaged him enough he was going for a deadstick crash landing. Let him go.

I felt so good. I had single handedly brought down 3 planes and I never gave them the chance to fire even one round. My tactics were flawless. I was a fearse winged warrior. Then I knew, I was an ace.

Loosening the sweaty palmed grip on the stick, sitting back in my chair to relax and bask in my own glow, I noticed messages in the upper left corner of the monitor.

It turned out that the habit of shooting at planes with red icons was hard to break. When I had switched sides I forgot to tell myself "blue icons = enemy, red icons =my friends". http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Once I explained what had happened and how I made the mistake my buddies gave me the link to download TS. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

This was embarrassing me thinks.

My first and my last, because I honestly have very little time with a family to really go at it like I would like to...I enjoyed it immensely however...

I picked warclouds for my first experience and took off in a P-51. I was having trouble gaining speed and I checked if my flaps were up which they were...and kept trying to climb, which was difficult (I was thinking what the hell is up with the online FM!).

Lo and behold I get jumped by a bf109, trying to escape I kept stalling, making it hard for the guy to hit me...I lasted quite a while stalling and chugging around at 250 KM/H. Finally looking down I noticed my gear had been down since I took off. The Bf109 pilot must have been having trouble hitting me because he was too busy laughing!

Later on I remembered to bring my gear up...making me much easier to shoot down!

I collided with the host of a coop, removing his wing and not scratching my plane. I'd been online for two or three days and my SA was still a cone about the size of the sight reticle. I can see out of the whole front pane of the windscreen now.

Sorry about that Seahawk!

Ok, this is kinda embarrassing....

Flying online on some servera few months ago, my usual mount a B-25. I was pounding the enemy base at 100 ft. using 500 lb bombs. I set the delay for 2 seconds to let me get clear and did a few runs. Later I switched to parafrags for some variety, approaching the enemy base once again I noticed a Beaufighter spawn on the runways' end. A moment later he winked out...saw me coming and decided to wait!! A hard starboard turn, line up with the runway and pickle the long stream of 'frags, neatly down the runway. As the last of the bombs clear the bay I switch to my tail turret to watch the results. The Beaufighter spawns once again, sees the drifting parachutes and starts the engines in a hurry. Full power as he starts roaring down the runway. At this point I slapped my forehead... I still had a 2 second delay on the bombs! The Beau hurtles along amidst the ticking bombs. They start going off behind him...bang Bang BANG...the line of explosions is chasing him down the runway..getting closer to the Beau....now he gets flying speed and b-a-r-e-l-y pulls ahead of the popping bombs...aw nuts he got away!!!!! Close thing though.

Most embarrassing? Telling someone it was a doddle to land a B25 on a carrier deck during a co-op and then managing to lose the gear on touchdown (I did have an engine out) and sliding, very slowly, over the edge of the carrier deck at the bow. There must have been about 2kmh in it between pulling it off...and not!

Heheh I remember oone moment that is a perfect fit.

I was battling my guts off with two deadly sneaky I16.One of them went lower,2nd higher.

I was already bored after few unsuccessful passes and decided to make the last one and head home.

I took a direction of the higher stanced I16.The I16 pilot chosen to headon with me.I saw it and made defensive barrel roll.
While making the roll I took one more glance at the I16 and saw too smoke-like tresses heading my way which blew up in my immediated vicinity.
Turned out to be rockets heheh
My elevators got damaged,I was out of the fight.

2nd time I remember was a headon with La5F.From dead six/twelve it resembles the 109.I saw a con, went for an ID and recognized him too late. The La5F pilot fired and got my elevators.
I had to bail immediately.
Later on the mission debriefing showed he hit me with one 20mm round.

Flyin a P47 with a couple of 500 pounders under my wings, when tracers cross my canopy from the right.

I snapped the nose up as the 190 overshoots and passes under my nose from right to left.
I throttled back and got rid of the wieght under my wings all in 1 fluid motion.

looking out the left I spot my target and kick the rudder slowly nosing over on the 190 now diving away.

Coming down on him he starts a turn so I roll around in the dive to line up on him watching as my left wing comes into view......

just in time to watch one of my discarded bombs rip it right off the fuselage.
I was so shocked I didn't even bail out.

mental note:
don't toss the bombs up and out then dive under them.

Feeling cocky in an Fw 190, and deciding that I'd show those four Yaks and Las on my tail how to fly by diving under that bridge ahead of me at 675km/h...

Well, I think you can guess (hint: I did the wrong sort of 'diving' http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif ). Needless to say I blamed it on lag. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Hopped on a 'no-icon' server immediately after an extended session on one WITH icons. I took off the carrier to see it being swarmed by various aircraft. I lifted my nose got barely enough airspeed to avoid a stall and laced this unsuspecting bad guy causing him to crash...then I got the 'friendly aircraft destroyed' message...sigh.

One of the first times I went icon-less on the Spits vs. 109s server - sometime back in the late spring. I don't know what got into me but I downed two friendlies and earned a rebuke from the admin. It was as though I was so focused on looking for any aircraft that when I found one I pounced on it without thinking.

Around the same time, different server I believe, also icon-less, I shot down a B-25 in German markings. I recall thinking that it didn't look like any German a/c I know of, but all I really saw was enemy warpaint.

Strange what a simulation can do to your head. Anyway I got over it.

Embarrassing... yes....I kept reporting to my mate on the ground about 3 enemy planes that circled the very airport he was trying to take off from. Meanwhile I was circling a bit higher up and wanted to position myself behind those planes to B&Z them.

The first odd thing I could recall was that the planes kept a perfect formation. But then I dove - only to realize these "planes" I was talking about all the time were....in reality... barrage balloons! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_redface.gif

So this is how they kept flying in formation for so long.... http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif

However, there was real aircraft engine sound around the airport and moments later enemy tracers passed my cockpit. Anyhow I could escape and also my mate took off without problem, so together we shot down the intruder http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Greatest embarassment was in a coop when I was flying a Stuka over the desert map, I attacked by mistake a friendly column, a devastating attack... http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

Unfortunately the friendly column was in the same area of the enemy one, and there was no landmark in that desert area.

Then I recalled, from my readings of war reports, how often it did happen in real life, and felt a little less embarassed...

Was flying P51D against an A8. We met co E at some 3k. I refused headon, passing straight below him (his tracers went high above me), then zooming up as we passed. He zoomed up as well. He was obviously not a rookie. We both knew we have to get E advantage over adversary, plus we both knew he needs WAY less firing soulutions than I do. So we climbed, dived, took snapshots on every occasion, and this dogfight lasted for at least 5 minutes, we climbed to some 6k. Then I started to gain E advantage over him. After a few passes, I found myself on his tail, determined to stay there. He tried all kinds of this hi-end luftwaffe experten tricks, but being dedicated Fw rider myself, I managed to stay on his tail, spraying him with my .50s. I could already see his left wing and fuselage damaged, so I got cocky assuming fight is already over. Then, in the middle of defensive maneouvering, he spiral-dove. I followed, with my eyes glued to him. As you can imagine, at some 800kph, I lost my left wing... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif

He pulled out, came back and barreled over my pillar of smoke, and the chat bar said:
;)
. Nothing I could do but to congratulate him.

Most embarasing part of it was, that some friendlies were observing the fight from above, covering me just in case he turned the tables....

Another embarrassing moment was when I was flying in an online formation. We were playing team vs team. Ourside was 5 109's and I was the leader.

Everything was quiet and there was no sign of the enemy. I turned away for a minute to take a gulp of coffee. As I was doing this I suddenly here guns firing, looked up and saw tracers in front of me. I mmediately I realized it was the enemy on my 6. The whole thing sort of startled me. I immediately choked on my coffee, spit half of it on my monitor at the same time started barrel rolling and scissors, still choking and using my left sock to wipe coffee of the monitor.

I could see the enemy anywhere and the visibility of the monitor was very poor. I looked left, the right. Nothing. In front I could make out the tracers and the sound of the guns were loud. This guy is good, can't shake him but thank god he's a bad shot. He never hit me once.

Finally the guns stopped. I figure I lost him or one of my mates finally cleared my tail. I sent a message "Thanx for clearing my 6"

What really happened was less dramatic. It was my first time using a X45. My hand barely fits into the stupid hand guard. Then there that piece out sh1t pinky trigger. The guns were my own guns, there was no enemy.

I wonder what my teammates were thinking as they watched their leader lose it. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

The next day I removed the pinky trigger and washed the coffee off the monitor.

Fritz

Now, what really happened is quite different.

Pirschjaeger, I think you are the champion (or maybe just the most honest). I have also consistently gone after dirt on the monitor. For me I think the most galling thing is screwing up a take-off or, worse, taxiing to find the **** runway in one of the cockpit-lock winter maps where you can't see a thing and the runway seems to be invisible only to lose it and nose up or shudder your plane to pieces taking off across uber-grass.

Ha ha ha, yep, take offs and taxis can be embarrassing too. Another good example is the He111 with the new FM. If you see a He111 spinning left, the right, then left on the taxi way stay clear; that's me. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

BTW, dropping your bombload as you are trying to start your engines is quite embarrassing too. But the 10 sec bomb delay is ten times more embarrassing. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif

Great Storis!

I have a recent one although i have hundreds more that i am fairly ashamed to tell hehe.

A week or so ago, just 6 of us flying a coop so its quite chatty and personal! Its 4 of us in F4Us and 2 in Ki84(plus Ai of course). Our squad of corsairs probably had the best fighter sweep ever against these monsters. I got two excellent kills in front of my leader who was fairly pleased with me. Andthe others also got one or two, even one of our Ai planes gettin a kill! BUT now for the landing onto the carrier.

I know all the downed pilots are watchin so i am very very nervous, because fact is i struggle to land on carriers when offline practicing. So i start from a couple miles out, Gear down Hook down, flaps down, at about 600m! The carrier is approaching fast so i chop throttle and torque chucks me to the side. I am startled even after this long flying 4.01 FM, i hit the deck with front wheels, slam the elevator full back and my rear end hits the deck and goes trailing off the side, then my right wing hits the tower on the deck, and my wing goes flying away somewhere. So that leaves me sittin there with all eyes on me, just a F4U with 2 kills, one wing and thats about it! Needless to say we all had a great laugh and i walked away with a face like a smacked ****. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Just out for a quick bit of fun flying so I head straight for the fight, flying a spit so I should be able to hold my own in the furball, by the time i've managed to id one enemy got three on my six and i bite the dust.

So I hit refly and try a different approach, gain some alt and pick them off from the top, they see me coming a mile off and it's not long before I'm hiting the red refly button.

Right, I decide to get a sneaky kill to regain my confidence. I wait until I spot a plane being shot at by my AA and go in for the easy kill, which turns into an easy death as i'm forced into a collision. Well at least I didn't die alone this time.

Eventually after a dozen deaths in little over half an hour for one kill (friendly http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/1072.gif) I'm about to give up il2 and go back to pacman when it dawns on me this should be an icons on server. I hit the toggle icons key and my (limited) skills return. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif

Yes, this is the worst thing about the winter maps.

I fly offline with no icons. The other night it was me in an A-20 vs 4 IL-2's. I had set my resolution to 800, hoping to see the enemy better. Instead I was constantly BnZing shadows on the snow. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

A really embarrassing moment was a few years ago online.
Where a worse turning plane outurned me and shot me down after a long goaround.
The pilot saluted me and I was pretty cold in my response.
It was a period when cheating was discussed on the forums.
I thought my opponent must have cheated because I always outturned that planetype, so there could ofcourse no other explanation.
Later when I watched the track I noticed I forgot to drop my bomb. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif

I don't know if it still works after the new FM but you can shoot yourself with the Me262 with that huge cannon but it's not easy.

Bored and looking for something new one, offline, I was flying the 262. I've always been interested in just how detailed the game is. Flying straight up over a village I held the trigger down firing into space. Then I slowly circled the village at low alt.

After a long wait, sure enough, ground explosions. I did this a couple more times looking for some degree of accuracy. My idea was to do this online over an enemy base. It would have really confused them. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

My first kill online. Was trying my hardest to get an ID on the bogey on my left, which was flying past me in an opposite direction, in process of taking down another unidentified plane. Well, he succeeded in downing the other plane, and turned onto my tail.

Taking hits, I panicked, and pulled hard up/right on my stick, pulling straight into the path of the overshooting pursuing plane. The impact awarded me with the kill.

Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Luckily, never online. I learnt this mistake on offline winter map. And crashing into the ground is not the most embarrassing part. Asking myself angrily "so where did that enemy plane go and why didn't it crash with me?!" is.... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif

While playing with my squad I was leading my flight, nice formation, in a Zero. While crusing along towards an allied carrier I accidentally hit the wing fold button in mid flight. I went into a crazy snap roll, and then dived straight into the sea.

I was sitting on the runway in an A20 on a bombing run with my Squad when i somehow tapped the bail out button. My left engine was at half power and my crew jumped out and ran away. Well... I sat there watching my A20 doing donuts on the runway while the rest of my Squad was proceeding with the bomb run. No one made it back from the bomb run, I was the only one who survived.

First time playing on war clouds I shot down a teamate. Apparently i didn't know it was Axis Vs Alies, Red Vs Blue type game...Well I shot down a P-38 in a Spitfire, but It was a beautifull kill! I dived on this P-38 out of the clouds and blew his rear clean off!

I've had a few. Probably the worst was trying to save a team mate from a Spitfire stuck on his tail. I shot the spitfire down but in the process the 190 I was trying to save was not manouvering and my 108 shells hit him too.

Theres also skip bombing and blowing myself up. Forgetting to put a timer on bombs and blowing myself up. Crashing in a powerdive while vulching, missing the target plane utterly but making a hole in the ground very near him, not paying attention formation flying and crashing my B25 into another B25 which we painstakingly flew to 6000m and almost across the entire Crimea map. The list goes on...

Well, happy to know I'm not alone.... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif

Typical is shooting a friendly and being shot down with no idea what happened. But the worst is losing control of my plane during a maneuver. So humiliating to stall and not able to recover... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

And taxing with the He-111 now...no I'm not drunk!

Too many others.... Why not doing the reverse? What's the proudest achievement? Now that's good for my ego! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/59.gif

LOL...Jumo and I have had some really good fights, but there was this once where he came into our base at a shallow high-speed dive, made one good pass and proceeded to fly home to land. It was a long way and he was obviously breathing the throttle a bit unaware of my firewalled P-47 slowly closing on his low 6. Just as he lowered his undercarriage and saddled up on final I caught him. I only made one pass too, but he handled that really well...he said nothing.

But I digress.

here's a short list of the toughest for me to swallow:

1. Shooting a friendly accidentally, but with deliberacy

2. ground collisions

3. scrubbing all my 'E' from 4k to find it was my shadow.

4. Reiterating bomb-delay to all my element, going in first and taking out 2 of them because I didn't set my own frikkin delay.

5. ruining an otherwise outstanding sortie by crashing on an uncontested landing.

6. Flying around on the FA server for 10 minutes listening to my teammates getting pasted and calling for help repeatedly while I can't even see gunfire, much less orient myself.

7. Ground looping a perfectly good airplane...for no apparent reason.

8. Many wouldn't be embarrassed by this one, but we wanted to cycle the map and had some seriously good mudmovers and adequate escort so 2 of us went with stealth to their base in fully loaded P-38's. My wingman got all of the AA and I scored 1600 points...with no static kills. That was almost embarrasing...almost.

Getting shot down by Faustnik http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Seriously though, I don't even know where to start http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_redface.gif

-I crashed into the control tower on one of my first t/o with my new squad.

-One one of my first forays online I was in a P-40 and saw a Rufe down on the deck. I thought to myself "Hey, I can shoot down a plane with floats on it surely"...he promptly turned my altitude and speed advantage into nothing and pwned me.

-Recently, while flying with a wingy on WC, I called a bounce and then proceeded to auger in at 850 kph.

-I also got mad and shot some poor virtual sucker in his 'chute, that was pretty embarassing.

What are your most embarrassing moments online?

I died once after playing Fb for 5 days without sleep.

Luckily I believe in reincarnation and I came back as a cat. Now I can only play after my owners have gone to bed. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

Clearing an entire flight deck by dropping my bomber rather than starting my engine. The bomb release is on mode 1, the engine start mode 2, doh http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Mine seem to ALWAYS be witnessed by fellow flyers.

1. Hitting wrong button on take off and killing engines instead of raising gear.

2. Bailing out on take off for same reason.

3. Pickling bombs instead of starting engines. (Always get feedback from the guys affected by this, ahem, boo-boo) http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-surprised.gif Edit: Spooky there Arm slinger...u readin over my shoulder?

4. Calling for help in "L" quadrant repeatedly, getting angry when the guys say they no can see anything. Only realizing later that I was in "I" quadrant. (keep this to myself and play it off) http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

5. And basically shooting up, blowing up, or ramming my team mates because of a severe case of cranial rectal inversion syndrome.

Most of the above but I'll add:

Carrier take off in a zero with wings folded with all the squad there to see. Major loss of cool points.

I couldn't figure out why that **** thing wouldn't climb!

Come on
Admit it
half of you are sitting at home playing in your underwear...
and the other half are naked.
*shudder* Ewwwww

Either way I ALWAYS clean the seat before climbing in the cockpit. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Flying red, how embarrassing.

Actually my most embarrassing was the first time I shot someone down online. I didn't feel worthy of doing it.

figured this could be a problem for me if I would be wery sleepy so I have a plastic pocket on the screenframe and a card blue on one side and red on the other and change when I change side (just in case) http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

so far just a bit "new"(have il2 since about the start of the sim haven`t played for a long time now thou)
to this sim so it`s mostly learningcurve
stuff

forgott to change markings on ac
chosing ac`s I haven`t realy flown in much jus to balance teams and so on
