yeah i had brought that up earlier before lol, aparently it was a design mistake as all the buildings were built at different times to each other so instead of a swastika on a drawing plan you would only see "L" and no one really thought about what would happen if you put 4 "L's" togethor like that. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/1072.gif

It's a more efficient way of getting maximum building square footage(using basic construction techniques) out of a smaller ground 'footprint'.

*Note* the other building(bottom right) of the top photo, that folds around itself, yet isn't a swastika.
It's simply a groundspace management issue.

There ought to be more swastica stuff, and deliberately, just to freak some sense into the rubes.

It's terrible how rampant PCness has gifted this ancient and universal symbol to Hitler and his party. Almost as if retiring the number of a famous sports player.

I've heard that a Budhist group is suing the German gov't for the swastica ban. I hope they win, so this benign symbol can go back to those that really own it.

Then we might finally get proper Finnish skins without having to add them ourselves.

From this site:

http://www.neuralgourmet.com/2006/08/27/revisiting_the_swastika_in_san_diego

"What from the air looks like 4 L-shaped buildings arranged to look like a Nazi swastika is in fact 6 buildings. The 4 L-shaped buildings and two central buildings (seen in the 3D rendering here by NG member greyleonard) were constructed between 1969 and 1970, but the Navy never planned for the complex to look as it does. In the reply to my e-mail inquiry, Mr. Fiebing explains what happened:

The original plans submitted to the Navy for the project included the two central buildings which were intended to contain a boiler plant and a recreation room; and a single "L"-shaped 3-story barracks. The plan called for the "L" shaped building to be repeated three times and placed at 90-degree angles to the central buildings. It wasn't until after the groundbreaking began that Navy officials realized how the buildings would appear when seen from above."

As a student of architecture i would never build this buidling. Be sure, architect had photos, he had blueprints and i'm sure he saw this unless he's dumb.

4 seperate buildings, not joined. Broken swastika if swastika at all.

Swastika symbol is old into prehistory and does not belong to Nazi Hitlerites!
It does not stand for Nazi only. It has been for 1000's of years a Good Luck Sign!
That symbol with curved lines has been used all around the world, even prehistoric
America.

As architect to be, are there any issues of strength or design wrong besides that
it might be mistaken for Nazi's????

Look, i didn't say this is a nazi building. I DIDN'T attack you or your country. Svastika is banned for a reason so don't give me history lectures. I didn't say they build svastika, but does it look like? Yes, it does (resembles). My post was trigered by this statement:

aparently it was a design mistake

You can not say this is design mistake. Architect knew what he was building and he had all the blueprints. He just ignored it, and IMHO IMHO IMHO i would not build it, since there's a lot of other options.

People on this forum should realy be more open minded and not just attacking other opinions. I've seen a lot of forums but this one wins the medal in this category.

Does anyone here on the forum know of the anomaly known as "The Boob Shadow on the Side of Saint Mary's Cathedral in San Francisco"?

NO?

If not, then here's the link. I found it GoogleSearching for the pic. Read the humorous story that goes with the photo of the cathedral...I thought it was funny at least:

http://www.pigdog.org/auto/ClothingOptional/shortfeature/2373.html

Twenty years ago, a friend told me of this phenomenon, and I had to see it for myself.

Dang me if it wasn't true. There really was a shadow, kind of like having to wait for the sun to shine through the lens to find the burial spot in "Raiders of the Lost Ark". Ceptin' this was better than the dumb movie.

Maybe if I spin around twenty times, then stop and squint really hard, maybe, just maybe I'll see a Natsy Swastikker instead of a boob. Just like "Raiders of the Lost Ark".

Lots of Swastikkers when you watch that movie. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

That's my old barracks at the Naval Amphibious Base Coronado. I lived on the third deck of the building facing the baseball field from 1979 to 1981. When the SEAL trainees were going through Hell Week you'd hear'em dragging their rafts around that field at oh-dark thirty screaming hoarse threats at the guys in their squad who were thinking about quitting(as I understood it, you started out your training with a squad of twelve, and you carried the inflatable raft with you everywhere as a team. The rub was that as people dropped out, you still had to carry that damned raft with the people who were left. It got pretty dire when you were down to less than six guys...)

cheers

BTW, its weird that the building exactly points towards the capital direction, N, S, E ,W http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/34.gif

BTW again,
How does the egyptian Great pyramid builders found out where N, S, E, W, is,...they don't even have a compass 4,000 freakinN years ago http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-indifferent.gif

A compass would only tell them magnetic north..not true north.

http://www.physlink.com/News/051209MagneticNorthPole.cfm

I imagine they could precisely calculate due east from observations of the rising of the sun every day of every year.
