Since my last pic thread was so well recieved, here's some more. These were taken last summer at the Corsairs over CT airshow.

http://pics.livejournal.com/laptop_mechanic/pic/0006q18p

Here's a shot I took from a 4 seat piper I got a ride in at the show.

http://pics.livejournal.com/laptop_mechanic/pic/0006rkpr

And here's the back of my head. The guy riding in the rear graciously offered to take a few pics while I got to play at the controls a bit.

http://pics.livejournal.com/laptop_mechanic/pic/0006s391

Korean War vintage F4U-5N night fighter.

http://pics.livejournal.com/laptop_mechanic/pic/0006ttxw

Another shot of the F4U-5N.

http://pics.livejournal.com/laptop_mechanic/pic/0007xyrf

A shot of the F4U-5N in the daylight. You can see the pod mounted radar on the right wing, the 4x20mm cannon, and the twin chin scoops that make the type easily recognized.

Goodyear FG-1D "Marine's Dream". More to come of her below

Side shot of "Marine's Dream". This Corsair is in stunning condition.

Here's "Skyboss", another Goodyear-built Corsair

http://pics.livejournal.com/laptop_mechanic/pic/0007w589

Here's a Korean War vintage F4U-4.

http://pics.livejournal.com/laptop_mechanic/pic/000703qk

Here's "Skyboss" firing up its R-2800 18 cylinder engine in preperation for a brief display.

http://pics.livejournal.com/laptop_mechanic/pic/00073fr4

Here's "Skyboss" and the F4U-4 starting to taxi.

http://pics.livejournal.com/laptop_mechanic/pic/000748es

Corsair flight of two, you are cleared for takeoff!

http://pics.livejournal.com/laptop_mechanic/pic/00076gq9

Low level flyby.

http://pics.livejournal.com/laptop_mechanic/pic/0007cr81

The F4U-4 retuning from its flight.

http://pics.livejournal.com/laptop_mechanic/pic/0007dr0x

"Skyboss" returning.

http://pics.livejournal.com/laptop_mechanic/pic/0007e39h

This Corsair arrived while my wife was taking pictures while I was otherwise occupied (details to follow).

http://pics.livejournal.com/laptop_mechanic/pic/00079ywq

Here I am in the backseat of an AT-6. One of the ground crew members is instructing me on how the parachute harness and seatbelts work...not that I needed much instruction, mind you. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

http://pics.livejournal.com/laptop_mechanic/pic/0007a7p1

All strapped in. Lets go flying.

http://pics.livejournal.com/laptop_mechanic/pic/0007g3sd

And I'm back. Sorry. I left the camera on the ground with my wife.

http://pics.livejournal.com/laptop_mechanic/pic/0007kkg7

Some days, it IS good to be me.

http://pics.livejournal.com/laptop_mechanic/pic/0007paq2

A B-25 with both engines turning, ready to taxi.

http://pics.livejournal.com/laptop_mechanic/pic/0007q106

The same B-25 making a low level pass with bomb-bay doors open.

http://pics.livejournal.com/laptop_mechanic/pic/0007tydb

"Marine's Dream" with her engine running. The sound of freedom!

Thats all for now. Enjoy!

Is it just me, or does someone else too think that the Corsair is the ugliest plane ever made? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/disagree.gif

I'm afraid I think the same. It just looks 'wrong'. In fact I dont like the look of any of the USAAF WW2 planes really, apart from the P51D which is just beautiful.

The B29 is a nice looker too.

EDIT Actually the P38 has been growing on me a bit lately.

(Note I am talking about looks only)

Simply Stellar. Thanks Corsair_Fanatic!!!!!!

As the kids say now: The Corsairs is like Buttah. She's got a great body, buttah face is a wreck. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif JK

I think the Corsairs got the best attributes in a plane. Fast.....Strong..... Very good at it's tasks..... ALL of which make it attractive. It's not a classic beauty like Scarlett Johannson or Halle Berry.......But it's no Kathy Bates either.

You want ugly.....take a good look at an LA 5 or 7.

I've always loved the looks of the Corsair. Just like the FW-190 it's a killer and it looks the part.
