Hi all,
I just finished wathcing the directors cut of das boot and thr original version many times. Which film has the more accurate/literal tranlations? Both films get the same meaning across but with different translations of the same scenes.

The dubbing is very unaccurate in both versions but the subtitles of the Original Miniseries are a bit better translated that those of the Directors Cut.

But an real accurate translation is simply not aviable. Neither in dubbing or subtitles.

In some cases entire phrases have been altered especially when it comes to explicit language with sexual content http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I remeber the scene with Frentzen and his buddy farting and talking about french ******s. This was altered 100% in the translation for a reason http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blush.gif

Other things like jokes for example would simply make no sense in english when you translate them 100 % or they wouldnt sound so funny.

I love Das Boot. I don't have the original 6 hour version, but I am happy with the directors cut.

To be brutally honest... Mom HATES Germans, its that war thing...

With that being said, she really liked the movie, and to be honest, that says alot!!

I haven't had the chance to watch any Das Boot movie. However, I did make a long post awhile back about the differences between the several versions of Das Boot released. As soon as I get some time and a little spare money I'll shell out the cash for the original uncut version (ironically being sold for more than the Directors cut, wonder why http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif )
