It's almost magnificent. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif

Come on Maddox games, I hope our BOB:SOW graphic is surely better than that.

I 100% believe your FM & DM so eye candy is my only concern. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I've actually played that game already, at GC2008. And I have to say, it didn't manage to hook me that much. One of the main reasons for this is the lack of viewing distances, carefully avoided in these videos. It really takes a lot away from the atmosphere. The rest is ok, but all in all it does not look more impressive then the newest modmaps we have for IL2. Aircraft detail was remarkeable, howeever, something I really look forward to in BoB as well.

All in all... it's good that is a console game, so that people can play something decent on their consoles too http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif .

Edited...it appears I was mistaken.

Which is wrong, as the only similarity between the two is the name. They do NOT have the same engine!

Rumour has it though that the flight models are based on the ones from IL-2... I would find it very surprising however if that was true

I thought the FM and models were imported, otherwise, new engine, not Il-2.

Tell me about it.... Remember that great trailer for CFS3 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jwUyC5tWwVY&feature=related)?

I was expectinhg something at least close to that... but what I got.. was less. I discovered IL2 and that was that.

Yes,IL-2 engine is called Smirnoff Ice! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/59.gif

Now tbh i don't know what it's called.I don't think that they were giving names to game engines 8 years ago. It's not like what it is now with Crytek, etc. But i do know that the IL-2 engine is basicly upgarded even older game engine,i don't know about what game it was used before that...Some ground based simulation again.
So be sure that the IL-2 engine is atleast 10 years old.

BillSwagger

wow, so thats how the game is suppose to look.

another reason to get a new computer,

I think il2 is admittedly better for PC, unless you go all out with your PS3 and hook up flight yokes and keyboard accessories, but i know few people who do that for just one game on a console system. Sounds very promising, and i know the popularity of Halo, although not as complex, sky rocketed when they got their console versions out.

This ought to be interesting if we could play them....ha ha ha...

Actually Oleg and his team built the engine for IL2 from scratch, just as they are building a new one for SOW. The IL2 Engine does have a name
but I dont remember what it is called.

Maybe you should do a bit more research before posting about the game *cough*....the cockpits are highly detailed.

I even posted a topic a while ago with tonnes of highly detailed screenshots of the game, if you search my post history you will find it, or search for BOP screenshots in this very forum.

Sorry danjama, I won't be wasting time on console gaming.

Did anyone really look at that footage?

I mean really look at it with a critical eye?

pfffttt....

Perhaps BoP isn't for the WW2 aerial enthusiast, but it will draw more people to our hobby.
As far as BoP using the Il2 engine, Oleg has already said that BoP has nothing more to do with him than the flight models.

I'm a serious flight simmer myself but I hate to be one of 'em when I see nauseating elitism.
Any minus for you with console flight game release?
One more, cockpit looks good thou it's not 100% authentic. Self shadow and other effects is bar beyond current flight sims' cockpits.
If you don't wanna waste your time on childish console game, don't bother to post. Why waste it twice here?

lol, sorry flightboy. I've been lurking around here for ages and have been active on other forums. I am also flying Il2 since the demo days, so I am really not that much of a noob as you may suspect. It also helps beeing active in the gaming industry =)

Though, going by some entries here, I've obviously been wrong with the IL2 engine for this console game. Which is odd, as that is the info I got from several sites and the guys at the 1C booth at GC themselves http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif

Anybody willing to shed a bit more light on this?

we are all playing the PC version http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

spiritually anyway.....il2 is like its daddy, which is surely better?!

Elaurens, fair enough mate, nobody forcing you into it, but like i said before, it can only help to educate millions and reach out and grab more ww2 enthusiasts, many young, who may go on themselves to play active roles in ww2 aircraft development or similar....

I understand your hopes danjama, but in all honesty I cannot see a huge influx of new "serious" flight simmers happening solely from being exposed to BoP.

I just don't think "Sp33dhaxx0r1998" will have the attention span or the understanding to deal with the slow pace of a WW2 "sim", and will bore quickly of only having 350 rounds per gun and no power ups.

And how many console kiddies are gonna lay out the cash we do for our hobby?

It will be an interesting experiment, be sure, but it sure isn't gonna knock CoD or Halo off the sales charts.

Oh i agree. The majority of kids aren't gonna be interested in flight simming. Let alone asking for an X52 as their next christmas present from santa. But some might. And maybe the ones that aren't interested in simming will still become interested in WW2 aviation. It's how the bug spreads. I was only young when i started flying il2 sturmovik and even flew mighty 8th and EAW before that so don't be fooled into thinking all kids are the same http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

The terrain looks amazing, according to Oleg SOW will look even better. If true, this pleases me. Does anyone know how a top line PC compares in terms of computing power and graphics processing to the Xbox 360 and PS3? I have always wondered that, (have never owned a 'console' apart from an 'Atari'if that qualifies many moons ago as a bairn lol http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif . No interest in FPS's, played one you've played em all *Yawn* ). I would guess they are probably equally comparable, but obviously PC's win all day in the long run due to upgradeability.

Trefle

In computing power i don't know cause the cell equipping Ps3 is quite powerful , but consoles have ridiculous amount of RAM and the 3d card that's in the Xbox and Ps3 are already 2-3 years old tech .

But since they optimize the ressources , they can get pretty good looking stuff with it , that BoP looks really nice indeed
