Hi,

Today was the happiest day of this year for me,
climbing in a Me-109G5 and experienced the claustrofobic cockpit., and therefore I,m pleased to share this with you.

Some facts;
I made a visit to Jan van Huuksloot, the restorer of this unique model on an airfield called Seppe in Holland.
This guy doug the wreck up himself and hammered for years to be able to consruct it in its former glory.
You won,t believe your eyes.
This particular aircraft was one of only 430 G5,s and had a pressurised cockpit.
It,s the only survivor of this model.
However it will never take-off again but Jan wants to install an Argus engine in it and taxi it around.

The aicraft belonged to JG3/11 JG3 , stationed on Schiphol, Jagdgeschwader 3 ,,UDET,, with number 11, schwarze 11.
On 4 december 1943 it scrambled to intercept some 140 P-47 F. bombers which were escorted by more P-47,s from the 352th FG and some of the 56th FG.
In the skies , between The Haque and Utrecht, it was attacked and shot down by P-47,s , the pilot bailed out and survived, the plane crashed and was burried.
Jan van huuksloot doug it up and restored it now with parts of different AC.

Lucky for me I was invited to climb in the cockpit and fullfilled my wish ever to sit in one. Awsome!
It felt very familiar , because of years flying in Il-2!
We spoke about all instruments and the start-up procedure.
Hereby some pictures and I hope you will enjoy them.http://i11.photobucket.com/alhhttp://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/potver/fotoshuizen2004174.jpgttp://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/potver/Afbeelding0002019.jpghhhttp://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/potver/fotoshuizen2004157.jpgttp://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/potver/Afbeelding0002041.jpghttp://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/potver/Afbeelding0002046.jpgttp://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/potver/fotoshuizen2004149.jpghhttp://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/potver/fotoshuizen2004156-0.jpghttp://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/potver/fotoshuizen2004170.jpghttp://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/potver/fotoshuizen2004177.jpghttp://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/potver/fotoshuizen2004162.jpgthttp://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/potver/Afbeelding0002027.jpgtp://i11.photobucket.com/albums/a190/potver/Afbeelding0002023.jpgbums/a190/potver/fotoshuizen2004158.jpg

If you have access to a scanner, how about scanning those two flight manuals tucked in the cockpit.

Judging by the way many of the original parts are smashed and mangled, he's done one heck of a job getting it to look like a 109 again. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/11.gif

I forgot to tell, but the tail is like a wing, the left side is curved(?) and the other flat all to counter the engine torque.

Got any "sideways" close-up looks at the tail? I want to see the trim adjustment rudder opening for the elevator...

excellent observation! the 109's rudder is only "in trim" at cruising speeds..

At all other times you have to use your boots!
