hi, just wondering about the fastest most efficient way to sink a carrier or at least severely damage and limit its use. its tough to get in there through the aa so it would be nice to make as few bomber trips as possible for sure. Id appreciate any insights... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/53.gif

thanks!

Spawn a TB3 on it with full ordnance and hit the bomb release button a few times. Make sure you have a small bomb delay for the best effect.

Get 50 of your friends, and stick them in SBD-3s.
Then go bomb it to sh1t

A couple of torpedoes would do nicely. Unfortunately the only torpedo planes we get are big slow easy-to-kill targets.

Oh, I wouldn't call the Beaufighter a slow plane...

Il2's with VAP's. Or Tiny Tims. 4 doesn't the job.

Board the carrier, put the Captain and bridge crew in irons, cry "ARRRH matey, the ship be mine!" and run aground on a reef.

Tarawa has a nice one.

Unfortunately, it is all-too-easy. Take your
pick: SBD's with 1000-lb bombs or SBD's with
1600-lb bombs. After half a dozen flight deck hits, you will see the AKAGI gradually settle.
This is sheer nonsense. The game does not distinguish between the U.S. High Explosive and Semi-Armor-Piercing 1000-lbers of 1942 which could blow the area of a carrier above its armored deck to Kingdom Come, but were unlikely to sink one. The 1600-lb Armor Piercing bomb of 1943-on was, indeed, a ship killer. Just to test its lethality, in game terms, I loaded an SBD-5 with one, and drove
right into the boat deck of an unsuspecting AKAGI (the deck beneath the large flight deck overhang at the rear of the ship). She sank quite nicely with the one hit (from the looks of it, I blew her bottom out---along with screws and rudder). This much is reasonable---the 1600-lber was a deadly bomb. What is positively absurd is that dive bombers and torpedo bombers both have sitting ducks with which to work their wicked will. No Japanese warship would have sailed along at approximately 20 knots, on a straight course, and let the attack aircraft blow her to bits. The game completely abdicated the problem of trying to hit a wildly maneuvering warship belting along at high speed. Furthermore, the anemic escort screens provided in the Quick Mission Builder make carrier attacks in PACIFIC FIGHTERS an attack aircraft pilot's dream. Until the system gets a strong jolt of reality, consider this game a game.

Heinkel H-6 twin SC-2000s seem to do the job as well .. atleast yerterday evening I saw a Heinkel sinking the carrier with one sortie.. (skip bombing )

That is one ride and load I use to sink a carrier, but use a level bombing run at aprox 1200m. The same can be done with the B-25, using 3 x 1000s, but personally I find the He-111 to be a more consistant platform - probably due to the 2 x 2000 lb bomb load.

It is important to navigate so you approach the carrier from the bow or stern, or the AAA will chew you up or knock you down. This also gives you a better target to align your sights.

I have dive bombed and skip bombed with the He-111 and B-25, with less success than level bombing. The damage model may take into account the penetration of the carrier deck by a free falling bomb, or it could be my fuse setting. I use a fuse delay of 10 seconds when level bombing a carrier to allow time for maximum penetration - before detonation.

i wasnt too bad at model boats, actully http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-surprised.gif

i think corsair with 2x tiny tims and 8x ap hvar are the quickest way.

i consider the corsair the best bomber ingame http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-surprised.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-indifferent.gif

You might consider using a Mistel. Aim for the flight deck from behind, Otherwise, the Mistel will just fly right through the ship (some sort of strange result of having the Mistel modelled as a plane rather than as ordinance). I think that is the only way to take out a carrier with one bang. It's an interesting challenge too!

Skip bombing in a F4u-1D with 2-1000# and 1-2000# bomb on a 3.3 second delay.....always sends them down, any class, any ship. Makes transports go down in a hurry.

Hm. Does any1 ever tried with *dropping* torpedo on the deck? I have notice that torpedo can make real fine blast when thrown on solid ground, but I have never done that on carrier. So I wonder.. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I've heard that smoking on the Hanger Deck during fueling operations is one good way...

cheers
