Not sure of the tone of the start of this thread. Am I to assume that Swivet was born with a joystick in his hand (don't answer that!) and never had to ask anything? As two of the "noobs" being referred to here me and my son (Trainee 117) would like to say that we've been very grateful for all the advice folk have offered and that we are taking it onboard. I appreciate Swivet's "welcome" but hope that words like "infestation" don't put other new people off posting. Also, If Swivet would like to challenge my son to a Halo duel online I can assure him that he would be made to feel like a very inferior "noob"!

You state a good point. Over the years I have dropped in from time to time, but recently noticed something. The iL2 forums are the busiest of all of Ubi's forums and it shows that even after 7 years, this game is still going strong. Ubi might make a few bills with games live Vegas, GRAW or Far Cry 2, but there is one game that keeps on making them money and that is their niche market games (shame that they took other niche market games in other directions).

People should welcome newbies with open arms in here as they will keep this game going.

You seem very deffensive. I think you should calm down. I am "Trainee117" got a new profile. My dad was just trying to have a light hearted joke. Don't sweat it. All we're trying to say is, yes there are Noobs here, lets help them. We were all a noob once. If all you are doing is simply observing the recent surge of "noobs" (new members of the forum not nesacarily new players of the game) then fair enough. Just try not to insult any of the "noobs" in doing so, they need your help. My dad used Halo as an example of something you are a noob to. You are a noob to many things I am good at (Halo), I am a noob at many things you are good at (IL-2), lets help each other out. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Also Halo is as good a game is IL-2. Obviously you will have your preference over which you want to play, but that is irelevant. Playing IL-2 online with/against you will change me about as much as you playing Halo online with/against me will change you. If you get what I mean.

If you joined the Bungie forum you would soon find yourself asking for help on unlocking Hayabusa armour or the the Mongoose mowdown achievement. In the same way I joined this forum having never played online and very much strugling to beat Zero's in my P-38. So I hope you don't mind but I'm going to ask people here for help.

I have been flight simming (online) since WW2 fighters and consider myself a learner when up against some of the hotshots on hyperlobby.
We all started somewhere and its a bit off to say there is an infestation of beginners, these people are the lifeblood and future our hobby and should be embraced as such.
PS I started with flight sims during my Amiga days with the Rowan stuff (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rowan_Software) and that was lots of years ago http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

There was a time when we were all new to this.
I can liken what goes on in here, to an extent, to what goes on in grade school. The "noobs" are the first graders getting picked on by the 6th graders who think they know it all just 'cause they've been around longer.
After a time, those first graders move up to sixth grade, and start picking on the first graders, knowing how they felt when it was happening to them.
I just leave the new people alone and help them when I can. They are learning, just like any of us. There is much to learn about Il2, and I am still finding out new things after flying it for 7 years.

I'm still a noob and will continue to consider myself as such till I can accomplish the following:

1. Figure out how to center the gunsights that seem always shifted to the left.
2. Take the lens cap off scoped Japanese aircraft.
3. Figure out how to raise the gear on I-16, and a number of others.
4. Learn how to start the engine on the runway and that Ctrl+E is not the right buttons for that.
5. Not take out my entire flight by slamming the throttle while at the back of the line to take off.
6. Be able to land.
7. Remember not to test the bomb release on the runway.
8. Remember that part of diving for the ground to escape includes A. The ability to pull out of the dive. B. Not turning the aircraft into a cigar by ripping off all the wings, elevators, and such.
9. Can shoot my first "enemy" plane down....Friendlies are easy now.
10. Don't get lost even though the map has an icon, and "stay with my leader".
11. Remember that 9,999m convergence means I must wait till they're that far to shoot.
12. That trim has nothing to do with bikini lines.
13. To not be 10m off the ground when releasing a 2,000Kg bomb with 0-seconds delay.
14. That 110% throttle + 100% Prop Pitch + Wep + 110% Mix does not equal a long lived fast aircraft.
15. That though pressing both cannon and Mg's down and holding them till they stop firing makes for a possible kill (basically filling the sky with lead), it doesn't help with the second kill as for some reason the guns don't fire.
16. When I can finally flip over a Tiger Tank with .50 calibers.

*sigh*........one day...

Hahaha

Here's my list...

-Am able to fly a Plane that isn't the P-38.
-Am able to fly the P-38.
-Am able to shoot down more than one plane before running out of Ammo.
-Can come out of a dive without useing the airbrake.
-Can honestly stop calling the button asigned to airbrake on my joystick the Black-out button.
-Understan the difference between Cannons and Machine guns (Telling myself one is more shooty doesn't count).
-Have made a skin for a plane useing software at leat a-bit more advanced than paint.
-Have played online.
-Have flown a few missions without using the map or external cams.

I'll keep editing this as I think of more and more things I cannot yet do http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_razz.gif

We are indeed infesting and just as soon as I learn where all the controls are and where to plug in my joystick, I'm gonna come online and be really annoying!

Prepare thyselves.

Oh yes wacky birdy can train you to be a superioirity über Noob. He can even show you how to mount chain guns on Ki27s or how to shoot up schools with this sim.
That turd picture from M4T fits in every case with bird brain. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/53.gif

Well, nobody ever answered MY last question which is in a thread called: petty online rants.
It dissappointed me and made me feel like the question was too dumb.

Don't feel bad about it XGB63, I have noticed that posts that are only a couple of lines with no avatar or sig can be easily overlooked. I doubt very much if it was ignored on purpose and I'm positive if you ask again someone will help.

Sorry but I don't have the knowhow :/

I made a humerous observation a few months ago.
IL-2 has the highest arrogant buggers to noob ratio in all of the games available. It is something like 5:6 at the moment. Although lots of IL-2 players don't use English as their first language and come across as pretty rude and an arrogant bugger (Swivet)!

I just don't like from the arcade noobs complaing when someone uses realistic combat tactics against them.

It wasn't a dumb question XGB63, it was just rather off-topic for the thread.

You asked:
<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-title">quote:</div><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-content">
I made a mission in full mission builder and I would like to have a human wingman to help me on it. This mission envolves taking off from a carrier. How is this done from HL? </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

I think you'd be better off starting a new topic with this - we'd need to know a bit more to answer in any case, it's not entirely clear what you are asking.

Are we allowed to say n00b here?
Even n00bs can read the sticky's and learn a great deal about this sim, but I guess it's just easier to ask how you raise the landing gear in the Wildcat...
or uncover the telescopic site in other planes...
or how do you center the gunsite on the axis fighters...
and on and on and on.

I think it's great to see an influx of new people. It's wonderful really.
I am glad to answer questions in the same way so many other people here are happy to do, but some of the questions are so easily answered with the Nuggets Guide and other things.

I have actually seen some "n00bs" asks the very basic questions, and then come back and apologize for not seeing the the Sticky's for such questions.

I've been browsing these forums for approximately 18 months but never posted anything.

It's not that I didn't have questions about things (I do and still do), but I found most if not all of what I needed by using the Search function, the Nuggets Guide or one of any huge number of sources available to help newbies like myself learn this sim.

I supposed I could have asked questions earlier and gotten my answers but I found that going through the searches opened doors to other ancillary topics, concepts and pointers that I may not have been introduced to had I not have undertaken the effort myself.

I love it when that happens. It shows they have spirit at least. I remember dragging one guy on the deck (P-40 Vs Mc200) I'd disengaged after realising that he had some ability and was extending with him taunting me all the way back to my lines. As soon as the first outbound friendly dove in I did a tight immelman and hammered him into dust. A furious rant in the chat bar ensued, casting aspersions on my moral fibre which I laughed off. I tried to explain that dirty tricks are what the game is all about and at first he wouldn't listen and demanded a 'fair' fight.

He got his 'fair' fight, It lasted about two turns and he was dust again, at which point the ranting stopped and questions began.

All the time I tried to be as polite and helpful as possible because they guy had some skill and the right temprament but the wrong idea about war in the air (Too many comic-books I guess).

This guy still flies regularly, and I hope that my interaction is a part of the reason for that.

The more the merrier!
