View Full Version : American Attempts to Navalize the Corsair

MEGILE

The long nose of the Corsair posed a problem somewhat for the navy who wished to use it on carriers. While it eventualy took the British to figure out how to get her down, the Americans trialed some ideas on how the pilot could best see the deck over the nose.

Needless to say, some ideas were not as successful as others..

The pilot of that Corsair wouldn't happen to be Floyd, would it?

So ..... Megile where did you get that screen shot at? i've checked all the dev updates and
went through check 6's web site witha fine tooth comb and i could't find a screen shot of a coursair flying up-side-down with gears out and on apraoch to a carrier.

So unless your a beta tester....i'm wondering just where you got that screen shot at.
and if you ARE on the beta team your invioloation of your NDA's.

So again....where did you get that screen shot from?

Methinks someone leaked a beta again. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

Well if the beta is "leaked" again then thats a shame. However I don't understand how a screenshot is against the NDA. The betas that I have taken part in before have not had any specific information against screen shots as long as they don't show any information that is relevant to the game. Which is the reason for my request for screenshots with the Corsair in them. NOT EXISTING DEV UPDATES!Those shots are lame and look all screwed up with stuff.

I don't think that one is photoshopped. Notice that the water isn't on crazy high detail like in all the development updates. I suspect that is from a beta tester or someone with a leaked beta who took the screenshot while playing at playable settings for a non-supercomputer.

*shines the interogation lamp light on Megile*

Look here, see. Where did you get the goods, see? We'll give you and your chums a break if ya tell us where to get this beta, see.

Just kidding Copperhead. That was the first thing that came to mind too when I saw that screenshot and the quality of it too. Well it shouldn't be surprising when leaks occur but sorry to see them happen.

But Megile, the question burning (which I don't care if it's answered or not) is where you got the screenshot? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/34.gif

Wait. you guys didn't get your leaked copy last week? well don't worry I'm sure a newer leaked copy will be around next week or so. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif

Why does this surprise anyone??

There has always been a "good ol boy" network with these beta teams. Problem is the beta team for IL2 has gotten so big and so full of people who are only there to get thier advance copy leaks like this have become common place.

What I want to know is....if you were flying the ILS at this point, and you had a below the glide slope indication, what would you do? Push forward on the stick, or pull back? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/1072.gif

Screen shots are covered under all NDA's I've signed while beta testing for Ubisoft.

They are only to be released by the publisher and developer, unless specifically pre-approved.

This ain't cool at all...

It might not be cool but I believe that is a shot retouched from the Check6 films. I have the wmp file and the posted shot is as close to what's in their film as I can see. Any one can redo a screenshot if they so desire I believe.

Now for a question that's been nagging me for a bit. Does anyone know if the tailhook will be keyed separately from the tailwheel? No sense in using a tailhook if you can't return to your carrier and must make a landing on terra firma. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Yep Spectre you have a valid point.
and the pigs are right. not cool at all.
this just screws it all up for the ones who
are on the beta teams to help. and for the ppl who are trying to get involved with Beta testing for Oleg to try and help. there are obviuosly those who just don't give a damn and just wanna have fun with it, show off and not do any work. that and make themselvs out to be the BIG MAN among thier buddies by saying hey i got the beta you guys want it too? or by showing off on the forums ..
...somthing your not supposed to have to begin with.

So again Megile let me ask how you came about that screenshot? Are you a beta tester? if not where did you get it.

Reschke
09-26-2004, 05:02 PM
Maybe I should have said this. On beta tests of games for companies other than UbiSoft in years past the beta non disclosure agreement never mentioned screen shots except to say that if they show information relevant to the development of the game (ie...in game debug screens and other "code" type wording) then the beta tester is liable for any leaked information.

This is from the several games I have been a beta tester for starting with Microsoft, Sierra (now Vivendi), Eidos and several others. Of course these were at least 3-5 years ago and NDA's were a little more lenient in the flight simulation areas then than they are now.

The program was abandoned as it turned out to be too expensive and the pilots called it a headache. Here we see the deck personal taking care of a plane and making the deck ready for the next one.

Not to be outdone...the French developed their own technique:

Speaking of strange carrier landing techniques, in the late '40s/early '50s the US Navy experimented with something called "flexdeck" whereby a fighter was specially reinforced and had its wheels removed so it could smoothly belly-land on a rubber deck. Surprisingly it gave successful results, but it was not applied as flexdeck planes could not be diverted to regular runways or carriers.
