Depends on how good a friend he is.

Just ebay the individual parts, and stick them together, to come up with a round number.

Or zipzoomfly.com it with same or equivelent parts, and charge him 1/2, and take he counter offer.

Aside from TOAD's statement, it would also depend on his need. If he already has a machine and wants this one for a home server machine or doesn't have an immediate need then, well...

You can buy a brand new rig at Best Buy that can do what we want most computers to do for about $500.

I'd say ask for $200 as a ballpark. Then you can apply it towards some sweet hardware of your own (VC upgrade or that sweet 24" widescreen). Lord Knows I've subsidized more than one upgrade with gently used parts in the past.

If you know them well enough then you can even spread their payments over a couple pay-periods. Just beware, if you sell it to a friend they may have an expectation of some implied warranty. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

If he's a good friend/co-worker, just ask yerself how much fun you've had with that rig in past times.

Could be there's nothing left of the investment, all used up... http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

I'm about to transfer a 2.4Ghz/1GB/9800Pro system to my brother in law...
After having transferred a Dell 1.3Ghz/256mb/7200 system to my mother in law...

All at no cost for them... nor for me... I've used them machines, and have had full ROI from it I think, if they can enjoy 'm, let 'm!

(Note: I'm financialy a-okay, I do not need the money...)

If I needed the thing, I'd happily pay upto EUR 150 or so...

Just give it away, no warranty issues then... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

You can get a brand new Dell for less than $500.00.
Getting a fair market value for a computer as old as yours isn't going to really happen. (the crappy part of computer upgrading)

As fooltrottle says, give it away if it's a good friend and if cash isn't an issue.

You did not mention how much RAM but I would say around 200-275 dollars would be a fair price to ask. Since hes a friend, I would sell it to him for 200. As mentioned you can get a decent PC with more modern parts and better performance for 500 dollars from places such as www.ibuypower.com (http://www.ibuypower.com) and www.cyberpowerpc.com (http://www.cyberpowerpc.com) so you can ask to much.

Part out the 250GB HDD, and give the "friend price" of $100 for the rest.

Look up current retail price for each part. Sum for total, then subtract 20%. I've always had good luck doing this as the price always reflects good value.

Whatever you would get for it in Ebay, with a "friend" reduction.

Friend reduction is usually about 20%

If it was a real friend Id just give it to him.

Give it to one of those computer charities and write it off of your taxes next year. If he's a real friend you would not even give it to him, but instead talk him into buying a newer rig that has a future. That PC is circa 2003 or 2004, better off putting a bullet between it's eyes and putting it out of it's misery. Or let some kids in Papua New Guinea play with it and learn something.

Just give it to him.

Before I bestow you my infinite wisdom you must answer 2 questions.....

Does this "friend" have a hot @ss sister?
Does this "friend" have a virgina?
