Hi Rick,

I got your e-mail and the address was the same one that I sent the messages to. They just keep getting returned to me as "message delayed".

I regret that I cannot undertake written correspondence, below is the text of my e-mail to you:

Hi Rick,

Do you run Windows in large font mode ?, if so please try setting normal (96 dpi) font size and this should solve your missing Control Panel problem.

I have never seen a missing desktop icon before ?, the IL2-MAT Manager installer always puts an icon on the desktop, I wonder if this too might be a large font problem.

Please let me know how you get on and if you have any other setup/operational issues and post them here.

Best Regards

Hi Ricgard,

If I may I'll start with a little background info. There are two programs
which work together, IL2-MAT (the original proogram) and IL2-MAT Manager
which is a user interface for IL2-MAT. You need to install both programs
and configure them.

Firstly IL2-MAT:

IL2-MAT is a tiny program which, when run and configured sits in the
background and, when it detects IL2/FB/AEP launching copies "MAT" files to
the games \PaintSchemes\Cache folder. How they get there I'll explain

To install IL2-MAT you need to do the following.

1. Run the il2matsetup.exe program included in the download.

This will install IL2-MAT to its default folder of C:\Program Files\il2mat
(unless you change the installation path). When this is done you nedd to do
the following to run and configure IL2-MAT.

2. Run il2mat.exe from the IL2-MAT folder.

3 This will launch IL2-MAT minimised in your system tray on the bottom right
of your Windows toolbar.

4. Right click on the IL2-MAT icon in the system tray and then click on

5. This will bring up the IL2-MAT configuration screen.

6. You need to provide the following information.

7. The path to your IL-2 Forgotten Battles game (usually C:\Program
Files\Ubi Soft\IL-2 Sturmovik Fogotten Battles\) Enter this information into
the "IL-2 Location" box.

8. Then enter the same path as above but with "CoopRegt\" at the end eg.
C:\Program Files\Ubi Soft\IL-2 Sturmovik Fogotten Battles\CoopRegt into the
"Custom Markings location" box.

9. Click on the blue + symbol next to the "filetypes to be copied box",
enter "MAT" without the quotes and click on okay.

10 That's all the compulsory setup done but you might also like to tick the
"load on windows startup" box to save having to run IL2-MAT every time you
boot your computer.

11. Then click on OK to save these settings and quit the configuration

12. Right click again on the system tray icon and then click "active" to
ensure that IL2-MAT is listening for the game to launch. (All of the above
only has to be done once).

Now copy the il2fbhook.dll file provided in the download into your IL2-MAT
folder (replacing the one of the same name already there) this file the
latest version designed to detect FB, AEP and PF launching.

That's it for IL2-MAT now to install and configure IL2-MAT Manager.

1. Run the file called "IL2-MAT_Manager_v1_95_Full_Installer.exe" provided
in the download.

2. If your IL2FB games isn't in the default location of C:\Program Files\Ubi
Soft\IL-2 Sturmovik Fogotten Battles then browse to its location before
clicking "install".

3. The installer will first install all gaphics and MAT (loader files) into
their correct locations and then automatically run the IL2-MAT Manager

4. Select where you wish to install IL2-MAT Manager, I'd recommend that you
leave it on the default of C:\Program Files\IL2-MAT Manager.

5. when you have completed this then double click on the IL2-MAT Manager
icon on your desktop to launch the program.

6. If the game is located in its default folder as above you won't have to
configure the program at all. If it isn't the you will be prompted to enter
the correct location. (this will be saved)

7. Make your choice of marking and the press "Quit" to exit the program. The
program will exit after it has copied all the files for your selection (MATs
and TGA graphics files).

That's it,

Run FB and you will see your "substitute" markings.

You can re-run IL2-MAT Manager another time and change these settings as
often as you wish.

BTW I said that I'd explain "CoopRegt", this is the name of a folder which
will be made by the IL2-MAT Manager installer and populated with many many
MAT files in various sub-folders. When you quit MAT Manager these files will
be copied from their sub-folders into the main "CoopRegt" folder. similarly
some graphics files are also copied from sub-folders of your Regiments
folder into your main Regiments folder.

When the game runs IL2-MAT copies all MAT files located in the CoopRegt
folder into another folder located within your FB folder called "Cache".

I know it looks long and complicated but once setup you will not need to
change anything but your choice of markings. Take it steady and you'll be

Get back to me if I can help more.

Season's Greeting,

Leigh (Aces)
