or the Lucasart original BoB? I'd love to see the Bf-109 cockpit from either of these old favorites of mine just to compare them to Oleg's state of the art ones for the new Bob ( or even Shockwave's new version out this week) If you have one or two can you post them please?

No, but i can offer this treat of a Spitfire cockpit from LucasArt's "Their finest hour". Also a 'BoB'game. Enjoy http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Ah, the old BOB was the reason I became a fan of WWII planes. I was into sub warfare at the time and went to buy a new sub game. I was ready to pick up the game when I saw the Lucasarts BOB game. I also was into jet planes with Falcon and F-15 from Microprose and so cheap prop planes were no concern. Yet, I remember trying to choose between those 2 games and don't know why but I chose BOB instead.

Installed the game.. Decided to try that Messerchwatevername and went off against a few spits. When I fired those 2 cannons at the spit and smoke appeared with the explosion, I became hooked on the 109 and WWII planes.

With SWOTL, that was something. Especially the campaign mode where you chose your targets and this had a big impact on the war. Would have loved to have that in IL2...

Anyway, not helping the topic but felt good to share that. Good old times... http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

when cockpits didn't need reference guides and they even had the name of the plane on it http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Oh too bad the Mobeygames images don't work....but thanks for the try.
Yes I do remember these entry prehistoric flight sims fondly.I remember the tremendous firepower some of the planes packed:My son can't seem to forget that on one BoB mission in a 109 . he managed to shoot down ,at extreme range a Hurricane with one cannon shot ( his last one too!) It spoiled him & also made him impossible to live with...
Seriously two features I did like & wish they could be incorporated into FB/PF or the upcoming BoB from Oleg:1.) you could "train up" pilots for your flights in campaigns by training them on single missions...it was nice to know your wingman was an experienced ace ( also a heartbreak when he was killed - all that training gone! 2.)Was the way your campaign mission design choices & losss they affected(effected?) the outcome ( win/lose-wise.)I liked that because it forced you to thik hard about how you used the planes & pilots at your disposal.I haven't seem the Shockwave BoB yet ( but boy I have heard it needs a patch or two) but wonder if it has campaign planning features similar to the old Lucasart game ( or did the Rowan version on which the new Wings of Victory is based?)

Ditto for the training. I too remember the heartbreak when they died.... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

I've got it in my collection somewhere.
I think I lost that copy protection wheel for it a long time ago tho.

I bought my 1st computer to play Their Finest Hour. a Screaming fast brand new 8088 processor running at 8 mhz with a 40mg Harddrive and 4 mg Ram.
I put in a soundblaster card and a new thing, EGA 16 color graphics card with 1 mg of graphics memory

And I did it for Under a $1000

Now that I look at what I just built for $600...
I'm gonna be sick.
Stupid "gotta have it now Computer syndrome"

Willy That is SWOTL! Be Sure! ;(

You know.. SWOTL had a neat feature that NO OTHER SIM I know of has ever done.. If you got an oil leak.. the windshield would start to show oil drops that would eventully cover the whole forward view.. IL2-PF *kind of* does it, but it happens all at once and does not get worse as time goes by. It was a neat effect.. but boy.. looking at those graphics.. look how far we have come in 13 years!

Well, it _was_ a ressource hog at the time. In my case, I think the maximum plane number was 16 and it was too much for my pc....http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
