Any simulators with this combo around?
Has PF considered it, despite it being pre-WW2?

I assume you mean 'Sparrowhawks'... Not that i know of, but if there was one i would be one of the first one to buy it. But why stop at that....U.S navy had a bunch of airships like USS Los Angeles and USS Akron not just the USS Macon. Now that would be something...an airship/blimp sim! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

Dawn of Aces had flyable Zeppelins.

Was pretty interesting, although it wasn't the fastest most maneuvrable thing http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Another interesting concept in Dawn of Aces was that you could spot for the artilery. You had to fly a recon aircraft, note the coordinates of your target and type in the command. Than you just kept nearby, observing the results and adjusting fire.

Something like that could still work for a SoW type game, and it would enable a different type of mission.

It is a shame that game developers don't try to expand upon the available mission profile. I still think that SAR and Arti spotting would be great new mission types, as would be a more advanced version of recon flying (not only flying over point X, but actually having a PR variant with proper "equipment" and starting a photo run). Nightfighting, another neglected aspect of the air war, with or without airborne radar.

Years ago there was an addon for CFS2 that allowed you to fly the Sparrowhawk, dock with the USS Akron and USS Macon or even fly the zeppelins itself. (Very nice cockpit with animated clock on the wall).

I've known one of those guys over 30 years now.
No WWII convoy escorted by blimps ever lost a ship to a submarine.

If you think about the mission profile for Navy blimbs that is less of an achievement than it might appear at first glance.

This is not meant as a sign of disrepect to the aircrews of these blimps.
