Gentlemen,

Just a quick announcement that TX Squadron has moved it's full time 'dedicated' server to HyperLobby. We are in the process of load testing the server and FBDaemon scripting so please bear with us during the first few weeks of operation.

When flying on the TX server, remember that courtesy and good sportsmanship is expected of all players. Remember to keep it clean and friendly while you are there.

For those of you not familiar with our squadron, we have been an organized unit for the past year and half. For much of that time we have run our server for the benefit of the community using a combined arms style of play that encourages ground attack. Everything is fair game so remember to use CAP to protect your own base from fighter and bomber attack and be on guard for enemy aircraft looking to destroy you on the ground or when landing.

AI bombers plus external views are enabled and we strongly encourage coordinated fighter and bomber attacks on the airfields. We feel that this adds a powerful element to the game and breaks up the monotony of the simple dogfight/respawn scenario by adding a measure of danger and uncertainty to the mission.

Stop by www.txsquadron.com (http://www.txsquadron.com) for more details.

TX Squadron would like to send our appreciation for those of you who have already flown our server and for having demonstrated your professionalism and good courtesy.

Salute!

I just found out from a girl I know that provisions data circuits for a living, that an OC3 circuit is 12k a month! Where is this server being hosted at?

Just curious.

S~ Bamatt,
The server is now actually run in a data center with 7 1 gigabit connections to 7 different providers and 1 DS3 connection with AT&T. The routes are shuffled with the BPG4 routing protocal to pick the quickest route from all our providers...

"Our internal network architecture utilizes the Enterprise routing and switching engines from Juniper and Cisco. We utilize Juniper M20 routers as border routers, Cisco 6500 series switches in our distribution layer, Cisco 6500 and 5500 switches in our aggregation layers, and Cisco 3500 and 2900 series switches at the customer layer. Our network is fully meshed and redundant with 8 backbone providers. Our current network consists of, Sprint (GigE), UUNet (GigE), Level 3 (GigE), Time Warner (GigE), Global Crossing (GigE), Verio (GigE), and ATT (DS3)."

We kept the name "TX-OC3" as folks know it already... /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

I use ASE. The TX servers are always at the top of my list, sorted by ping times.

Zen,

Salute Sir!!

Excellent server with extremely enjoyable gameplay. i.e. settings and ping times considering chock full of 32 players. These both held true as I played from 12:00 - 21:30 yesterday GMT -7.

Hopefully this post eludes that the server has been moved to HL permanently, as I don't even have the UBI software installed on my machine.

Regardless, welcome to HL and as long as you're up there, you have a new number one fan!

Your server has an excellent ping! Now that you've moved to HL, would you consider taking off the training wheels? There's no need to cater to n00bs by enabling external views and icons. ~S!~

TX is a great server to play on. It does need alittle more help though.

It needs to be setup to reboot every few maps because as time goes on it really starts lagging and freezing. Ya guys also need to get your kick setting fixed up so 2000+ pings actually get kicked, instead of repeatedly says XXX kicked for lag over and over /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Cragger,
That's actually a function of FBDaemon... Sammie and Bernie said that this was being worked on when I checked the FBDaemon forums over at GreaterGreen... Will keep you all updated on that however /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif Salute..

S~ Baloban,

I appreciate the suggestion on server settings. TX runs the server primarily for the community and in a way that helps dictate many of our settings. We have found through long experience hosting the OC3 that the majority of players prefer external views and icons and so we normally leave them on for the enjoyment of all who like those settings.

Another important factor is the use of AI bombers....with externals off they are virtually unflyable and that interferes with our prefered style of gameplay. We like to run a server that is action oriented and centers in many ways around the bomber attacks, by running a full real style of server we do not have those options unfortunately. Perhaps soon 1C/Maddox will enable more flyable heavy bombers but til then we make do with the best that we have.

The biggest reason our settings are set the way they are is gameplay...the dynamics of what happens each night on the server. There are many aspects of the game that are enjoyable...full real is one style and ours is another (to name just a few). By using certain combinations of settings the entire gameplay can be changed dramtically and we have found a combination that promotes cooperation, tactics and teamwork, and typically results in large dogfights while still allowing players to sneak around as well.
Additionally people do not necessarily fly continuously when in game, many times they will stop and take a break to watch the action of other players and to admire skins.

While there will always be that kind of player who will exploit settings to gain an advantage (by flying in external mode to avoid being surprised or by using externals to make blackout bat turns for example), they are the minority in most cases. For the majority of players, externals are a nice feature to have and are critical for AI bombers to be 'flyable', so we steer that way in the interest of having an interesting server.

In the end, I have no particular preference on settings myself. I do very much care about the energy and dynamics of the gameplay however and so have opted for lighter settings in the interest of having a 'general purpose' server so to speak, oriented primarily for the community's enjoyment.

In the end, we try to strike a balance between full real and arcade and to provide a stable place for the community to fly in. Being blind in one eye and deaf in the other, I think it's far too risky for me to take my training wheels off, I might fall over and get a booboo http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Thanks very much for your comment...I do appreciate your feedback.

Salute sir,

This is actually funny hehe. The fact is...90% of the servers are like this or even more relaxed...does it make all those people n00bs? Tsk tsk tsk /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif

Do both TX servers have the same settings? I know a while back I was on TX-OC3 and there were externals, but the cockpit was on, and that it what I like. The other day I hopped on one of the two and the cockpit wasn't forced.

I also noticed the past few days that the servers have been virtually empty, at least when I play they are. I play around 4-10pm cst.

Does anyone know who runs the Vulchers the Great server? In just the past couple of days, the host has decided not to change the icon distance anymore. It used to be set so you couldnt get an icon outside 1.5, now we get them at 5.0.

Just curious if anyone knew the host. I really like that server...

I say keep the external views (maybe fiddle with icon ranges for the FUBAR crowd)..

Hello guys; while i have the chance, just wanna say you always have the best simulations and scenario's in these games(well......except that one where one side could only fly P11's and R10's; was glad to see THAT one go) Anyhow, I appreciate somebody always running challenging fair campaigns on good servers, and i'm just saying thanks. Now; I'll go gripe about u changin to cockpit only on another thread. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
