View Full Version : Ye Olde eDimensional Stereo 3d Glasses

So I'd been playing IL2:FB for awhile and thought about how freakin cool it would be to have a sort of VR experience while flying. Seeing as how I didnt have 1000 bucks to fork out for a 1337 new virtual reality helmet I figured eDimensionals stereo 3d glasses would be my best option. According to various members of this forum they were compatible with IL2 and relatively cheap, so I busted out some hard earned money and splurged on a pair.

Little did I know the total and complete disapointment that awaited me. All the reviews on eDimensionals 3d glasses that I had read seemed to boast about their ease of use and user friendly installation and configuration. It was my experience that the complete opposite was true. I experienced crashes, System slow down, and constant head aches.

Finally I gave in (after many hours updating and re-updating drivers and browsing eDimensionals on-line tech support page like a hungry, morbidly obese, and indecisive glutton at an all you can eat buffet) and contaced eDimensionals tech support team via e-mail. I expected their reply to be as speedily delivered as the sales team had demonstrated, but much to my disapointment this was not the case. A week later I recieved my reply.

Alas, after taking a look at the DXdiag printout I had sent with my e-mail, The techie had noticed I'd failed to update my stereo 3d drivers to the most current version available and pointed this out to me in his reply. Unfortunately I had noticed that a week earlier and was STILL experiencing problems.

One hundred dollars, Four e-mails, countless driver updates and un-installs, and many head aches later, My issues are still un-resolved.

Even simple games Like Counter-strike display graphical artifacts and anomalies and IL2:FB is altogeather un-playable. The **** pit is virtually transparent and the image is literally painful to look at. No amount of Hotkey tweaking seems to solve the problem either.

Is there some really simple solution I've overlooked here? some command line parameter burried deep within a config file somewhere in my Forgotten Battles folder just crying out to be altered?

You tell me, Because eDimensionals tech support certainly wont.

As an after thought, If you are considering the purchase of these wonderfully useless "stereo 3d" glasses, I highly recommend you find another product to spend your money on. Unless of course you enjoy insane amounts of frustration, head aches, and that wonderful sinking feeling you get when you realize you've just flushed a relatively large amount of money straight down the F*!king toilet.

For any of you using eDimensionals Stereo 3d glasses that have actually managed to get them working, perhaps you would be kind enough to take a look at my DXdiag and possibly recommend a few things I could try in order to remedy the situation.

From your description of what is happening you need to pay attention to this bit:

"Then in IL2Setup, set the Video Settings drop down to "Custom". This then displays an option "Use Vertex Arrays" (Just underneath "Use Dither"). This option MUST be disabled!"

Credit is due to the original poster on page 1 of the link Avi8or posted!

I have the E3D working fine with IL2 and IL2FB.

I have had issues when the desktop resolution doesn't match the game, but that is a case of no 3D at all!

I also exit the E3D tray applet as it conflicts with the Nvidia shortcut keys (F11 to toggle some mode I can't recall) and F12 with my trackir centre hot key.

Good luck, when it works it is worth it!

A) When I go to edit my registry settings as per the instructions in that thread, there is no entry for IL2:FB. Only IL2. Forgotten battles is not listed. ANYWHERE.

B) When I go to check my video settings, I click the custom button and there is NO vertex shading whatever you call it settings at all. Simply detail levels to pick from (ie: detailed cloudes, lanscape, etc.)

C) These things dont even work with simple games like counter-strike. I can tweak them to the point where my gun/hands looks somewhat 3d, only to have the lights in the game showing double images (or other objects, or the text.) No amount of function key tweaking seems to remedy this as either the lights are fine and show no double image but the gun/hands look all @!@$ed up or vice versa. There seems to be no happy medium. besides, i dont want a happy medium. I want the "stunning 3d" that was advertised. I want what I shelled out 100 bucks to have, not a happy medium, "this will have to do" type of solution.

But thank you none the less for trying to help. I do appreciate it.

I'm still open to suggestions if anyone knows something else i could try.

Hi WolfSoul.

The IL2FB registry key has to be created, the other thread IIRC dives the values to be entered (repeated here for your convenience /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif ):

Registry settings as follows:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\NVIDIA Corporation\Global\Stereo3D\GameConfigs\il2fb]

"StereoConvergence"=dword:3e87dd4d

"FrustumAdjustMode"=dword:00000001

"OpenGL"=dword:00000001

"NoOrthoStereo"=dword:00000000

I copied the original IL2 key and modified it as above.

The IL2 Setup referred to is the one accessed through the start/programs/Ubi Sof/??IL2 Forgotton Battles??/setup

It is OUTSIDE the game!

Give it a try and post back (so others can be helped in the future).

Appreciate being appreciated! /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Check out forums.stereovision.net for some extra info/help.

In my extensive experience with 3D glasses they're phenominal WHEN they work, but that's rarely, and even then you can't play for extended periods of time with them and FB requires extensive periods of time to play (at least for me).

Mine are in a box somewhere and I highly doubt I'll ever hook them up again.

That‚¬īs why you should get the Edimensionals. I know what you mean about headaches I had some ASUS VR glasses before and they where heavy, flickering and uncomfortable. With the Edimensionals I could play IL 2 for hours without problem when I had my ti-4600.

Oh my! I should have read this a couple of days ago. Just put in a order of the glasses and tracker. Wish me luck.

They work, they are good. Period.

If yu can't get them to workon your system there is a 30 day money back guarantee.

Your monitor has got to be good for best results.
You need a fast decay phosphur and at least 100Hz refresh at your preferred resolution to minimise flicker. If you can get over 120Hz your laughing.

Mitsubishi Diamondtron are good, the phosphur is fast enough for the 'ghost' images to be non evident.

RivaTuner (and possibly other GPU overclocking utils) can screw it up, so if already installed uninstall/reset tweaks to get 3D working and than apply one tweak at a time.

This is from personal experience!

You'll enjoy them Trouble_Call!

Well my monitor only does 85hrz at 1028x768 (which is the res i use at the moment due to my geforce 3 ti 200). but the site,manual,etc claim you only need 75 hrz or something. So it shouldnt be my refresh rate that is hindering me.

Can anyone tell me how to add this registry entry? Im not exactly sure and I dont want to mess anything up.

Hi WolfSoul.

I assume you have sorted the vertex array setting now!

To create the registry key:

Start Notepad.

Paste the following in:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\NVIDIA Corporation\Global\Stereo3D\GameConfigs\il2fb]

"StereoConvergence"=dword:3e87dd4d

"FrustumAdjustMode"=dword:00000001

"OpenGL"=dword:00000001

"NoOrthoStereo"=dword:00000000

Save the files as il2fb.reg (select save as and in the save as field select 'all file') somewhere convenient (desktop).

Once you have done this simply double click it and accept the merge.

Voila! You now have an IL2FB registry entry.

Now when you save your settings using the in-game configuration keys they should be saved.

85Hz does work, but faster is better. Phosphor speed also has a bearing on quality, faster phospors mean less ghosting or anomolies.

Convergence and depth settings need to be tweaked - f3&f4 to decrease/increase seperation and f5&f6 to decrease/increase depth. F11 cycles ?? to remedy edge tearing.

Out of cockpit view: Not very good in 3D if you leave the 'little plane' visible.

We'll get you working yet! /i/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Well for me I had to run at 120 hertz for total flickerfree gaming and 100 hertz for almost flickerfree gaming. But I run them at page flipping mode. Running them at interleaving maybe requires lower refresh rates???
